New Tinnitus Tone — Or an Existing Tone That I Only Now Started Hearing?

Hi all - for about a month, I've had this little pulsing annoying tone show up in my right ear. I started on Tegretol (no difference yet - although it's a small dosage at 100mg / day). I would also say that over the month, my general tinnitus continuous drone has had quieter moments, and has been a little easier to deal with in general.

Have you ever had a "new tone" appear and think maybe it was always there, but you are just hearing it now because other tones are resolving or quieting down?

Perhaps I'm reaching for optimism, but I'm trying to convince myself that this tone was there, just hard to hear over the other tones.

I'm at about 3.5 months since initial onset.

Any thoughts or opinions on this? Thanks!

I recently started noticing a new tone along with my usual one. I've been hearing it daily for about a week or so and beginning to think it's permanent. I get multiple tones on occasion but this one seems to be more noticeable. Last night, thank goodness, not there. Now I'm hoping for the best.

Hi Michael - it's only been a week it could certainly be a temporary tone. Sounds like your tinnitus changes somewhat frequently - no reason to believe it won't go away or change into something more manageable .

For how long have you had tinnitus and do you have measurable hearing loss?

@LostOutWest Thank you for your kind words. My hearing is fairly good on my left side short of a drop specifically at 6kHz - which coincidentally happens to be the same frequency as my original tinnitus tone. My right side has significantly more hearing loss at higher frequencies yet my tinnitus on that side is fairly mild. Makes no sense to me.

I'm sorry you're dealing with an additional tone but as someone fairly new to tinnitus, I will tell that for most people tinnitus gets better or else they simply don't pay as much attention to it. I'm often surprised to hear friends tell me that they have tinnitus but stopped thinking about it after several months. Statistically you're in that category and I hope it gets better for you as well my friend.
