Hi there:

I live in Ontario, Canada and I am new to this site. I have had tinnitus for a few years now and not exactly sure when it started. I have pretty well been able to live with it in the background for the past while but the constant noise was always there. I spend a lot of time doing photography and birding and it is really annoying when you can't hear bird calls that your friends do.

I am not sure how I caught it but I believe it is from fluid I had in my ears and one ear was so blocked I couldn't hear out of it. My last physician had advised me that the fluid would go away on its own and it didn't. By the time I got in to see a Specialist, he gave me nose drops and in a few weeks it cleared up and left me with tinnitus.

I have noticed in the last month or so that the sounds seems exaggerated and I am not sure why. If I am busy, out with friends, etc., I can manage it. It seems louder at night now or when I am working from home due to COVID-19. I have recently been trying some mindful videos and trying that and just reading up on Eckhart Tolle.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forum. Eckhart Tolle has been an inspiration in my tinnitus journey. He taught me several concepts in his book "The Power of Now". One being that we need to learn to flow with life and be present, meaning focus on the NOW moment in front of us instead of the future of the past. He also shared the concept of "You are not your mind", and asked that we need to step out and look at the chaotic mind as a third party, kind of what he said 'Be a watcher of the mind'. This is very important concept so we can be spared reacting to every negative spin the stressed out or depressed mind tries to do to our mental health. Of course the most important concept he shares is the spiritual side, that we need to try to be in touch with the 'Being' inside, which is of the utmost peace and joy in its purest form. Wish you can benefit from reading Tolle's work and improve with your condition. Good luck. God bless.
