Cause of Tinnitus
unknown
My tinnitus started two weeks ago in my left ear - seemingly out of no where. No concerts or exposure to loud noises. No stress or traumatic event that triggered it.

One night I suddenly heard crickets like they were in my bedroom. I quickly discovered it was not crickets, but tinnitus. I suffered a hearing loss some years ago and I've get very minor tinnitus once in a while in my left ear so this wasn't completely new to me. However, the gentle tinnitus that I've had in the past is nothing like this. This time it's very loud and almost unbearable, as most of you know. I went to an ENT and he told me to take Flonase for a week then call him in a week if the tinnitus persists. I've taken Flonase for the past few days and it hasn't helped. The crickets are as loud as ever and I'm jumping out my skin. Seems like there should be more aggressive measure taken than just Flonase. Should I get a second opinion? Or is this fairly routine?

Thanks in advance for any feedback and/or suggestions.

It sounds like your tinnitus has spiked for some reason and had every chance of settling down again so give it time.
In the mean time ,try relax and don't let anxiety take hold.
Be kind to yourself with some nice treats and get out in the fresh air as it's a nice break from tinnitus.
Keep us posted how you are getting on....lots of love glynis

Anxiety and heart palpitations have been reported by other people who have taken Flonase, so I'd look into Flonase side effects if that aspect began after using it. I'd contact the doctor's office if I came to believe that that feeling of jumping out of your skin increased after taking the Flonase.https://www.drugs.com/pro/fluticasone-nasal-spray.html has some facts about the generic form of Flonase. You might notice in that article that it interferes with Cytochrome P450 3A4. There are certain drugs and foods that affect the same cytochrome including CBD oil that can conflict. Certain food allergies (gluten, milk) can be the underlying cause of nasal allergy. By eliminating dietary immune agitation, the rhinitis/allergy/asthma to environmental triggers, in many people, goes away.

Welcome to the forum.
As far as the reason for the T increase, there are many causes, single or combined, which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including by not limited to drug reaction or side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, inner ear infection, Eustachian tube infection or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up in ears feeling pressured or fullness, sinus infection & congestion, TMJ, TTTS, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, loud noise exposure or acoustic trauma/shock, head trauma & injury, neck injury or muscle problems, SSHL, gradual hearing loss due to aging, Meniere's Decease, barotrauma from sudden change of air pressure such as during landing & taking off on flights especially with blocked nose causing failure to balance the pressure changes, slapping of the ears, deep grief for the loss of loved ones, untreated sleep apnea, extreme, extended stress, anxiety & panic disorder, sleep deprivation, etc., etc. T can also be caused or made worse by unhealthy diet such as too much salt, sugar, caffeine, MSG, alcohol etc. or by lacking some mineral or vitamin supplements, such as Magnesium, Zinc, B12, D3 etc

Hope you find the reason(s) for the sudden spike. Usually these spikes will die down, if slowly. Keeping positive an calm will help as stress and anxiety tend to aggravate tinnitus. So try find the reason(s) as much as you can and hopefully that can be fixed and then your T will likely fade with it. Good luck. God bless.

Hey Laurie. I was reading your older posts. Do you still have tinnitus or did it go away for you?
