Tinnitus Since
03/01/2012
I have had tinnitus which seems to be extremely bad and very difficult for me to cope with. Especially at night when I have had night with much as 2 hours of sleep.

I have spent a lot of time trying to prove to myself the cause. It started happening 2 days after a smart meter was installed on every house on my street.

I have seen my doctor who referred me to a hearing specialist. Both of which found nothing wrong and basically tell me i need to deal with it. I have spent the weekend sleeping at friends who have yet to get a smart meter installed. The ringing didn't seem as strong over the weekend but did not go away all together.

I get back home and it seems to get worse but then i question myself if it is my brain that is telling me stuff that may not be true.

I am one of those guys who has led a real healthy life and I work at home in a quiet environment so it is hard for me to believe that this just developed out of thin air.

Does anyone else believe that their tinnitus has been caused by a smart meter or am I just crazy for thinking this may be a cause?

Hi, Brad,

I think you are on to something! I read your comments, and looked up "smart meters and tinnitus" on Google. Here's one of the links I found:

http://emfsafetynetwork.org/?page_id=2292

Apparently, you're not the only one experiencing health problems, including tinnitus, from smart meters. Sounds like they're a threat to our health! Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Hi Karen, Brad,

Do you guys know what frequency these meters transmit on? We dont have them here in UK so I cant dig into, speak to your energy supplier and ask for specifications. If there transmitting between 2.4 GHZ and 5.8 GHZ , then I would be concerned.

Thanks for your replies,

I just read you post Joe but next time I phone BCHyrdo I will ask about the frequency.

I talked BCHyrdo this morning about getting my Smart Meter removed and they are saying this is the first time they have heard about "ringing in the ears" due to Smart Meter and asked if I can go back to my DR and ask to see an Ears, Eyes and Throat specialist.

I have setup an appointment already today so hopefully I get into this specialist quickly.

Hi Guys,

I have gone to the DR and they had already referred me to an Ears, Eyes and Throat specialist when they received my test results from the hearing specialist. Unfortunatly they expect it will take at least 6 months to get in... Awesome.

I called BCHydro about the frequencies and all they did is point me to this document http://www.hydroone.com/MyHome/MyAccount/MyMeter/Documents/Smart_Meters_Report_on_RFE.pdf . I tried to read it but I don't fully understand all of the technical stuff. Here is a snippet about frequencies but I am not sure if that is what you were asking about:

For example, immediately adjacent to a power meter, the RF field power density will be about 0.1 watt per square meter (W/m
2) compared to the exposure limit of 10 W/m2 appropriate to the 2.4 GHz band.

I am going to Vegas late next month for a week. I am hoping that my T disappears while I am there so I have another leg to stand on when I am talking to my DR or BCHydro. Guess I wait..

Yuck! Smart meters - terrible EMF exposure for people.

I would look into getting a Whole House Neutralizer that plugs into the house current to neutralize the EMF exposure. Aulterra makes one. I have one in my house and my business.

I have a whole thread on EMF dangers and protection here.

Keep us posted!

Hi brad. I was quiet blown away when I read your post. I have been going demented with pulsating tinnitus for the best part of a year now, positively suicidal at times. yesterday I was in making my bed when the noise became so bad I could not bear it and ran outside.

It was then that I realised this is what I always do and when I went back inside it started again. My bedroom shares a wall with the smart meter. I haven't yet checked the dates that the smart meter went in and my tinnitus became this horrible pulsating noise that has made my life an absolute misery.

When I googled tinnitus and smart meter up you came.

Looking through this has been such an eye opener thank you Brad

Robyn,
I hope you're able to get that smart meter removed from your bedroom wall, and moved to the other side of the house!

Hopefully, that will solve your problem. Believe me, I've been suffering with pulsating tinnitus for almost 3 years now, and I know how life-shattering it can be.

Good luck, and please let us know what happens after you contact the power company.

Tinnitus is worldwide phenomenon and pre-dates smart meters for sure. If a newfangled machine installed in some parts of the country caused tinnitus, there would be a deluge of complainants and lawsuits by now. Also, removing yourself from the machine would stop the buzz, no? Or does one exposure change you permanently? Odd hypothesis.

Let's not be dismissive. If this is how she feels, this is how she feels.

I for the longest time have felt that all the radio frequencies, mobile phones, Wi-Fi etc have contributed to my tinnitus. That's what we do when we don't know for sure.

G'day.

Smart meters might be a relatively new phenomenon but the fact that tinnitus has been related to electricity is anything but.

A little while ago, I've come across the book "The Invisible Rainbow" by Firstenberg. The author looks at health related phenomena which only occurred after electricity was brought into our homes.

I didn't expect to come across, what in my opinion were relatively new ailments, but got an eye opener after a handful of pages when the effect of bimetallism were described (without calling it that). And tinnitus, so much tinnitus related references... I was and still am rather shocked!

I've posted a couple of excerpts whenever I came across something that blew my mind for the simple fact that it has been know so early on but continues to affect so many people today, only that we seem to have forgotten that the knowledge of certain cause-effect relations once existed.

Here is the link to one of those excerpts. You'll find it under "Ohne Worte". It immediately came to mind when I read your post, @Brad:

If electricity is causing my tinnitus then there is no escape.

If I were made to choose between tinnitus and electricity, what would I choose? Ah, that's a thinker.

I will say that the one thing I have discovered is it seems like just about everything has been linked to causing tinnitus. What's more is just about everything has been linked to helping with tinnitus... So... Who knows!

That's a tricky question, indeed, @DeepakB. Just like everybody else, I like my creature comforts but maybe the amount of electromagnetic waves could be reduced somehow. Just like @Brad, I'm not sure whether I'm imagining things but ever since 5G has been established my head feels as if it was being crushed by some kind of vice. There are better and worse areas but it gets really bad when I'm driving along the Autobahn. And guess what, that's where 5G towers have been put up every 500 metres.

When I was a child my parents had the place outfitted with a night storage heating system. The sound the system made while charging kept me up for years and eventually I moved into the room that was the farthest away from the charging unit. Nobody believed me because nobody else has been able to hear that dreadful high-pitched noise the unit was making while charging at night.

The moment my parents got a different heating system, after years and years and years, the noise stopped and I was able of sleeping through the night once again.

People who had smart metres installed into their house have been telling similar stories. It is unfair to judge them because they, apparently, are capable of hearing sounds within the range a human person shouldn't. It's like a person who is unaffected by tinnitus saying our tinnitus isn't real because they can't hear it. We should rather invest in a technology (which I'm pretty sure already exists) that makes those "inaudible" sounds audible, so that the person who hears them is no longer told "It's all in your head" and something can be done about this subconscious noise pollution.

Firstenberg says in his book that it has been discovered dog years ago that about 11% of the people are sensitive to things related to electromagnetics e.g., the weather / changes in the atmosphere / air pressure. Guess what the old number was for the people suffering from tinnitus? It used to be 11%, at least when I first started to look into it, but recently I have come across numbers as high as 25%. Is it because we've all got too much stress in our life or are suffering from acoustic traumas or have been taken the wrong meds or could there be something else related to our suffering as well...?

The existence of tinnitus is caused by either noise (the most common), Meniere's, ototoxicity or TMJ/neck issues. Perception of it may be caused by occlusion (e.g., ear infection/wax blockage) or by stress. Anything else causing it is nonsense.

A (now retired) Professor at my department is specialized in optics and claimed to be hypersensitive to electromagnetic fields. He was hell bent on demonstrating that there is a connection between exposure to electromagnetic radiation and the symptoms he was experiencing for well over a decade.

I'm not sure exactly what he did; I'm guessing he exposed himself to electromagnetic radiation at random intervals and then noted down when he thought he was exposed to it or not.

Anyway, he said as much himself that he was unable to show that he could reliably tell when he was actually exposed to radiation, and gave up after trying to demonstrate it for so long saying it was all a waste of his time.

Here's the article about him, but it's in Norwegian: El-overfølsomhet: – Jeg lurte meg selv i ti år

That is because it's all a load of BS.

A very common cause is "hearing loss", and that usually occurs with everyone with age, even without loud noise exposure.
