Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown
Hello everyone, well I started having ringing in my ear 5/5/17 for unknown reason. I woke up that morning with my left ear clogged so I went to the ER and the docs cleared it out which left both my ears ringing but I could hear perfect. The ringing continued you I got scared and went to the ER 3 times one said I had bad sinuses and allergies and my Eustachian tubes, the other said ear infections, I just didn't know what to believe.

So now I'm taking decongestants till my dr appointment on the 16th to see what's going on.

Please anyone with insight on what could be wrong please help I'm very stressed

Welcome to the forum. There are many causes which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including but not limited to drug reaction or side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, ear or Eustachian tube infection or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up feeling pressured, TMJ, TTTS, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, loud noise exposure, acoustic trauma/shock, head trauma & injury, neck injury or muscle problems, hearing loss, Meniere's, barotrauma from sudden change of air pressure such as flights, slapping of the ears, grief for the loss of loved ones, untreated sleep apnea, elevated stress, anxiety & panic disorder, etc. If the cause of your T is determined and fixed, you may expect to gradually do better.

For the time being you may want to try masking your T. If you don't know how, let us know so members here can advise you. As hard as it may be, try to not stress yourself out. Stress and anxiety can aggravate T. So try to stay positive that things can improve. Try read the success stories so you can feel hopeful about your recovery. I read many, many success stories during my initial days with ultra high pitch loud T and severe hyperacusis. They kept me feeling hopeful and so help to reduce the severity of my T. After the initial struggle in which I saw nothing but fear and darkness, I turned around slowly and today I live a normal, productive and absolutely enjoyable life. I wrote my success story which lists quite a few strategies. If you like to read it, see the link below. Take good care. God bless.

Hi @JaVon
As @billie48 rightly says, many things can cause tinnitus. However, the most likely cause is exposure to loud noise. If you listen to music regularly through headphones or attend clubs, concerts or the cinema where loud sounds are common those at the usual triggers. If you listen to music through headphones I strongly advise to give that a rest for a while. If your tinnitus was caused by loud noise exposure, I advise you never to use them again even at low volume.

When you had the wax cleared out of your ears at ER, did you use olive oil eardrops to first soften the wax? Ear drops should be used 2 to 3 times a day for at least 7 days preferably 10 before having your ears mircrosuctioned or irrigated as this can cause tinnitus (but not always) or it is sometimes possible to make tinnitus more intrusive if a person already has the condition. In future use eardrops in the manner I've stated if you're going to have wax cleared from your ears.

All the best
