Hello there!

I have been having tinnitus for about a week now I think, and I have no idea what to do. This was always something I hoped I would never get. This again shows how little we as humans can control in life. I think I got it by earplugs that where to loud and in combinatoin with a loottt of stress.

Its still pretty soft and I still hope it will go away, but there had been no sign of improvement. Its loud enough for me to have trouble sleeping. When do I know its permanent? I'm going crazy here :(

All tips are welkom.

Tiffytx just a suggestion go to Walgreens and get the highest db earplugs (33db I think) and use them along either their headphones during your mri just to protect your hearing and t. The earplugs they offered me were only 13 or 14db so I brought my own.

Well I'm not sure if you need that much protection but I'm ultra paranoid about my T getting any worse so I'm taking all measures to protect it from the loud noises during an mri! My T spiked for a few hours and then went back down in the evening.

@Boxdra,

To answer your question:

Tinnitus is chronic if it has been over 3 months, and is constant (every day).
It is considered permanent if you've had it constantly for over a year.

I'm at the permanent stage myself, but I must admit that mine has (finally!) gotten a lot softer recently. It often takes time to get to this point, but it really can happen. It's called "habituation".

I wish you well, and please do let us know if you have additional questions.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thank you. Where did you get the information that its chronic after 6 months and permanent after a year? I like to read more about that.

And also, What's the difference between chronic and permanent (sounds the same?)
