Cause of Tinnitus
ototoxic eardrops
Hello everyone, I am almost 2 weeks into tinnitus and grateful there is a forum like this for discussion.

I recently took some neomycin eardrops for an ear infection. My tinnitus started shortly after. I have had impacted earwax removed and tests done but nothing has eased the symptoms.

My ENT and doctors claim the eardrops cannot be the cause as my eardrum was intact and there is no way they could have gotten in my inner ear. I hope things get better for me and everyone else.

Welcome to the forum. Ear infection can cause tinnitus. The good thing is that when the infection is healed, T will usually fade. Removing ear wax if done by microsuction can also cause Tinnitus. Hope your condition is temporary and your T will fade. God bless.

ear wax removal can only can cause tinnitus if the procedure is done wrong and causes more hearing damage, not the correct removal of ear wax itself.

He's right about it usually fading once the infection goes away and hearing recovers.
Please keep us updated on your case!

If your tinnitus goes away in a few months or so after the infection resolves let us know. It's really important we gather information of the technical properties of tinnitus recovery

Many people got T after taking neomycin. You might want to contact those users (or just look at their latest/last post) to get a sense of what to expect.

Please keep in mind that your sample will be biased, as people who get better often leave this forum (or never join in the first place) without posting in the Success forum (for fear of being jinxed).

Many people reported complete recovery months after discontinuing an ototoxic medication. [A question to native English speakers: Should it be "people Had reported" or "people reported"? I keep having trouble with this concept.]
