Heads up since it's summer and all, if you're waiting for a bus don't stand right in front of the spot that you think is closest to the door. With hot weather the drum and brake pads of a bus are dry so when they grind each other the result is a loud squeal. I was waiting for the bus at the terminal when it braked as it pulled in and the ear-piercing sound caused me to flinch. It was somewhere around 100-110 dB.
I woke up the next day to find I had a new tone in my left ear that sounds like a faulty DVD drive reading a disc, but at a much higher frequency.
