Hi there! What a goldmine of information here—so grateful to have found this forum. I just developed tinnitus a few months ago and have been trying to figure out what may have triggered it. I think I've developed adrenal fatigue due to a particularly high level of stress in my life over the past six months; I've felt somewhat desperate to "fix" the exhaustion ("wired and tired") I've been feeling as a result and have gone the shotgun approach of taking a myriad of various supplements (amino acids, vitamins, 5-HTP, etc) and kind of feel something (or combination) I've taken triggered the tinnitus. I've recently read about the link to tinnitus and serotonin and dopamine. So much to read and learn here! Thanks everyone for being here!

Welcome to the forum. Besides those possible reasons you listed, there are many causes, single or combined, which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including but not limited to drug side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, ear-wax removal suction, inner ear infection, Eustachian tube disorder or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up in ears feeling pressured or fullness, sinus infection & congestion especially with a bad cold, TMJ, TTTS, autoimmune disorders such as Lyme Disease & Fibromyalgia, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, anemia, loud noise exposure or acoustic trauma/shock, acoustic neuroma tumor, head injury or TBI, neck injury or muscle problems, hearing loss from aging or other causes, Meniere's Decease, barotrauma from rapid pressure changes in flights or diving, especially with congested nose or sinus causing failure to balance the pressure changes, slapping of the ears, deep grief, untreated sleep apnea, sleep deprivation,, extreme/extended stress, anxiety & panic disorder, depression, etc. T can also be caused or made worse by unhealthy diet such as too much salt, sugar, caffeine, MSG, alcohol, gluten foods, etc. or by lacking some mineral or vitamin supplements, such as Magnesium, Zinc, B12, D3 etc.

Hope you will be able to nail down the cause of your tinnitus and fix it. If not, try your best to stay positive and calm which given time will help you habituate to your T. Take care. God bless.

i would stop taking any of those supplements that aren't standard vitamins as they are typically not regulated or quality controlled and when in combination with other supplements could cause some kind of ototoxic or salicylate overload affect, even Motrin and Aspirin are salicylates
