NY Times: When Everyday Noise Is Unbearable

Yes, I saw that article. I personally hate that they posted a pic of someone in a rock band and I apologize in advance for anyone here that has T from that. It is just that having spoken to people in the last year I keep getting confronted with being asked it I listened to loud music. The perception from most people seems to be that you can only get T from loud music.

It's a common way people get it and is becoming more common. Don't fret this too much.

Yes I agree 100 percent. No one wants to face or believe the other reasons. I have had people actually get mad at me when I tell them I got it from medications that the doctor prescribed me. No one believes it or wants to believe it let alone even hear about it.

People are brain washed through TV shows and the main stream media that doctors are like gods and could never hurt you. It's tough if not impossible to break through years of brain washing.

Also people are sold/brainwashed through TV shows, movies, commercials etc that medication saves lives and and fixes things period. That's always the message. Big pharma owns our minds.

True, I tell people it can come from just meds and they never heard of it. Hell, I never heard of it till it was a contributing factor of my T for sure. The big pharma companies are our enemies when it come to this stuff. Can you imagine the backlash if its exposed that this kind of hell can be had from their medications!
They would lose billions…if of course people actually believed this can actually happen to someone.
Sadly…it is unbelievable and unimaginable if you don't experience it. Pain and torment on this scale...from medicine?

A friend told me about this article today and said he thought of me. "It sounds unbearable," he said. Of course, the story focuses on hyperacusis (which I don't really have, just sensitivity and tinnitus). But when people ask me about my T, I tell them, "yeah, I got mine from taking a single plane flight. You can get it, too, if you fly with a sinus infection." Tell your friends, your relatives, anyone you care about -- or otherwise.

Is there plain old acoustic trauma without a history of any meds? I'm staring to doubt it. The more I read, the more people I talk to, almost every one has experienced acoustic shock with some history of being on meds or were on meds at the time. I also know a ton of people in trades, riding motorcycles, concert goers, musicians etc with no history of medications that never experience tinnitus (even with unsafe levels of noise every day of their lives). I'm sure there are exceptions but the more I dig the more I find meds or some kind of chemicals to behind all this in one way or another.

I think these poisons weaken our ears and make us more susceptible to noise trauma. I guess this could be the reason tinnitus is more prevalent in first world nations with access to all kinds of medications.

I hear what your saying bro but the only drugs I was on when I got my T from acoustic trauma was alcohol but your probably not too far off the mark either.

@dan , I think it's just more of an observation than anything, I think we all accept that medication is a necessity and we need to take the good effects with the bad!

ok so, @Telis you're saying that we should ban medication.
Antibiotics save millions of lives, right? not sure what you're suggesting...
Yup...as rich said just a observation.

I sure wouldn't be sitting here chatting with you guys if I wasn't handed drugs that I didn't need. Here try this, try that. Greeeat!

If I listed what the doctors handed me it would make your head spin dan. All because they wanted me out of their office and here try this. If it doesn't work I will write you something else off the top of my head

Come on man, I wasn't dying, I had a slight buzz in my ears. A slightly blocked ear. Now my life is ruined, you don't see that as a problem?

And if I'm a little sad about my dog dying or a divorce I would not be expected to be handed ADs. Just alittle common sense that's all.

But who would make piles of cash with common sense and the patients best interest right?

And yes there should be a major shift in handing out these meds.

If have a limp dick I don't have to have Viagra, if I have in grown toe nail I don't need pain meds, if I don't get that bonus at work I don't need Ads, if I have heart burn I don't need antacid pills, if I can't sleep right away I don't need sleeping pills, if I don't like crowds I don't need Xanax, if I have little cut in my hand I don't need antibiotics. If I can't get the will to quit smoking right away I don't need the patch... Etc etc etc.

So maybe a partial ban yes. But again that wouldn't generate profits and it also wouldn't keep people coming back for more meds because of the side effects from the other meds. People would learn to cope and be stronger mentally and generally healthier.....What a shit business model that would be!!!

Oh and if my kid ever gets hyper and wants to play a lot of hockey...give him meds!! Calm him down!! Just hand that shit out to kids as well. Way more money, the adult market is tapped out, move on to children....plus it will get them sicker sooner for more meds. Wow. What a business...never ending profits.

@Telis, I hear'ya man.
Can I make a small suggestion if I may, try to find a good doctor who actually cares, because if you feel you doctor simply wants you out the door its a red flag. But I realize that its too little too late now for us....but perhaps for your kid's sake.

Hey Dan, sorry about the rant. These were all just common examples. I don't have kids and don't have the other listed ailments... just examples.

The first message is the one that pertains to me and is my personal experience...the one about my ears. The others are just general examples. Trying to make a point I guess.

Yes I agree though. Thanks for the feedback.
