Our Role

What is our role in all of this? A cure or treatment for tinnitus is needed yet research is heavily underfunded if not neglected. I do not want to live my life in fear or suffering but I am not sure of my role in all of this is. I am only one man, but I feel like its my duty to contribute in someway. So that each day their is a glimmer of hope that a cure is on the horizon. Maybe not tomorrow, or next year or a decade from now but perhaps one day. So what is my role?

You can lobby the Canadian government to donate funds to tinnitus research.

Donate to Research or Fundraise for them. Tell others about donating to research also. Even convincing a friend to donate ten dollars is better than nothing.

People wonder why hearing loss? It's because since some people have tinnitus with a normal audiogram there's speculation that damage to hair cells above 8K occurs and this is what causes it. Read this http://hearinghealthfoundation.org/cure_for_tinnitus it explains it better. So to me, it's like killing two birds with one stone for donating to hearing loss. You have the potential to cure hearing loss or perhaps even prevent hearing loss, the benefits of this are obvious. So if hearing loss is cured or perhaps even a treatment that allows significant improvement in hearing then some people with tinnitus will try this and if it helps them then we can add one thing to a treatment option. Also as research and technology develops in general they will develop better ways to study the ear and perhaps with new technology to see places like the inner ear and maybe we will finally be able to get a good grasp on what causes tinnitus.

Everyday I wake up and with this high frequency screech in my ear I think to myself, we're another day closer to something happening. Whether it's a cure, treatment, understanding or breakthrough.

When I first started getting this I thought "Right, what can I do?" because I hate the idea of just sitting around suffering for the rest of my life and not doing anything about it.

You are correct, we are only individuals which is why it is so important that we are a collective unit in, raising awareness, raising funds and putting pressure on the people in charge to do something about this.

With 12 million Americans and 600,000 Brits suffering from this very badly (I'm unsure of other countries statistics, apologies) you'd think more would be done about Tinnitus.
