Cause of Tinnitus
I don't know
Bare with me on this one.
I have been having good and bad periods lately. Today was pretty good. A hissing sound at a tolerable level.
It hasn't been cold enough to run my pellet stove until tonight.
I woke up a few hours after I started it and my ears were screaming horrible.
When I turned off the stove I noticed that the blower fan made a high pitched squealing sound just before it stopped. It started me thinking that the sound may be there all along and was masked by the blower running at full speed. I know that I can't listen to "notched" music without it getting worse. Also my masker makes it worse. I wonder if the high pitched background noise is triggering my tinnitus. I also wonder if it takes a few days before the tinnitus will tone itself down on it's own. When I was in the hospital it took a few days to quiet down and I was having a lot of good days.
I just thought I'd throw this out there. With the friggen size of my house I hope I don't have to start using my electricity to heat it.

Well you use a microphone and a suitable PC software to scan the ambient sounds in your home and see if there are any high frequencies...

Can the ringing last for a few days after the high frequency sound is located and then turned off?
I'm getting a 22000Hz sound at -84DB
I don't think my ear can pick up -84DB...
