So I'm on my 5th day of what I think is a spike. Woke up after a stressful few days and crying to an increased level in my ears. And I'm really not coping to great.

My anxiety is actually horrendous right now.

Can you guys tell me about your spikes. How long they have lasted. If they haven't gone away how do you adjust ALL OVER again. And even ways of coping with anxiety as it's making me bad again.

Thanks a lot for your guys support always

Spikes can last a few hours to a few days or maybe a week or longer. It happens, the key is to not get over emotional about it. Its hard, but that's how it is. Spikes are not fun and are painful and frustrating, but that's how tinnitus is. Try to relax and calm yourself, your spike will hopefully fade and get better...

I have a pair of hearing aids, that have a white noise machine, built in. There are days (very rare) that i'll just use em at home, to get some relief. Masking/white noise can be soothing at times, i rarely need this, but its great to know that i have that option available to me. This can also sooth a spike, listen to something tranquil and peaceful and let the mind drift :)

Hi @amymilly, I know exactly what are you going though. I have T since 2 and half month due to loud noise exposure. After an initial shock I had got to the point where T was really soft during the night and in the first 30 minutes after waking up. In the last week my T spiked 3 times with apparently no reason and never adjusted to its original level yet. The only pattern I found is that, when I had spikes I was exposed to "louder" noise than I am used to in my daily routine. With "louder" I mean like people chatting in a room with soft background music (no more that 65/75 db according to my mobile app). And anyway in all the occasions I was using ear protections. Or maybe it's only because I had a couple of stressful days which increased T initially and being worried about it made it worst.
Anyway, I am finding some relief in spending time outside by the sea reading a book where the waves noise naturally masks T. I have started as well to do yoga and meditation everyday to keep it together and trying to stay as much calm as possible.
Good luck with it and hold on :)

Matteo

Hi @amymilly , had a spike recently set off being too near a loud PA system. lasted a few days. Initially set off reminders of early onset panic, but as I relaxed and calmed down returned to baseline. I do have behind ear white noise generators set just below the T to help distract. Read @Michael Leigh's notes on spikes as well. You will be ok again, as your brain finds more important things to attend to! Best wishes Phil

I had some spikes too. It was very scary because I thought my T was going to be like that- louder and more constant - but one week later it get better and back to normal T.
Stay strong and believe that it will get back to normal..
