Back in June 2015 I got an outer ear infection in my left ear and one of the problems was intermittent tinnitus. I would get this noise like a high pitch air leaking out of a bicycle tire that would last more than 24 hours at a time. Then for a day my tinnitus would completely disappear only to reappear in full force the next day. This back and forth action took place like clockwork for the last 3 months. I had wax buildup removed by a doctor and he even prescribed me with the antibiotic Amox on the chance that I had a serious inner ear infection. After a month nothing worked and it was driving me absolutely nuts. If I had it at night I couldn't sleep and was using a white noise generator to try to drown out the squeal.
I was surfing the internet and found articles that the following might help my situation. They were on Ginkgo Biloba, Methylcobalamin B-12, Taurine, and Melatonin. All of them had good reviews that they might reduce the symptoms of tinnitus. Only Ginkgo Biloba had negative reviews as being a doubtful aid for tinnitus. All of these can be bought on line for next to nothing in costs and without a prescription in the US as none of them are classified as a drug. I bought mine from Puritan Pride for a song. Each morning I took one Ginkgo Biloba 120mg tablet, one Methylcobalamin B-12 5000mcg, and one Taurine 1000mg tablet. Right before bed I took a 10mg Melatonin tablet because Melatonin will make you sleepy and for me I would fall asleep almost immediately no matter how loud the tinnitus was screaming in my left ear. That alone was a fantastic benefit. I started this a month ago and for the first two weeks there was absolutely no change in my condition. The last two weeks have been fantastic. The first thing I noticed is that the intensity of my tinnitus was reduced by at least half. Finally for the last seven days I have had no tinnitus. Gone, and nothing but beautiful peaceful silence. Silence is golden!
I can't prove that any of the above actually cured my tinnitus. Maybe it would have disappeared anyway. Maybe I had some nerve damage in my ear that eventually healed itself and none of the above aids actually worked. I don't know but I am grateful that it is seemingly gone for good.
Ginkgo Biloba extract is a herb.
Methylcobalamin B-12 is a vitamin
Taurine is an essential amino acid and a powerful antioxidant.
Melatonin is a hormone produced in the brain that helps regulate the sleep cycle.
