Unknown / hearing loss
My normal tinnitus is sort of a high pitched tone that varies in frequency a bit. Every once in a great while I will hear a rather loud lower pitched tone. Put just for a very brief period. Pretty sure it was from no outside source. Anyone else get this?

The other thing I get is in a very quiet room I have a sub component of my tinnitus in my right ear. It is sort of a scratching sound. But I swear I am hearing some words. Now I am pretty sure I am not going insane, yet ;) My guess it is my brain trying to make sense of what I am hearing.

Has anyone experienced that?

My other thought was I listened to a lot of talk radio playing earbuds. I use them no longer I just wonder if somehow my brain is playing back what I was hearing. Now if I could just remember what someone told me yesterday. ;)

The brief lower pitched tone you hear is probably just fleeting tinnitus, clinically referred to as "Spontaneous Brief Unilateral Tapering Tinnitus". The majority of the population experiences these brief episodes and they are harmless, though those of us with chronic Tinnitus seem to experience them more frequently. I have periods where I won't get one for weeks, then I'll have times where I get them every day, sometimes even multiple times a day, for a week or two. They used to scare the shit out of me, now I shrug them off.
