Yes, I am in the midst of hysteria.

An alarm just went off next to me.

And I panicked.

My tinnitus hit the roof as a consequence of the noise exposure.

I have a severely reactive tinnitus that goes up with noise exposure.

The alarm was on Samsung 5830, a loud shrill ringing noise that is so loud, I would not be surprised if it was for hearing impaired folk.

At the moment, the sounds in my head are unbearable ... and from experience, even if improvement comes, it may take days, weeks, even months to do so.

I fear that it may not come ... the sound was really loud.

I am seriously considering ending my life.

Im in the same boat...If nothing helps you should consider trying Trobalt/Retigabin.

Thank you for taking the time to respond but it does not really help to know that you too want to jump out of the window (or whatever death you are thinking of).

I was hoping to hear from people who too have been exposed to very loud sound and recovered ...

Reactive tinnitus=keppra...That's how I treated mine. I no longer suffer from hyperacuis or reactive tinnitus. I suggest getting some and I know, it's hell. Also get some NAC, it helps protect your hearing. Good luck.

Hello Danny Boy, is Keppa not for epilepsy? I am not epileptic .. I just have T and H.

Did Keppra cure your of T and H?

Why then are you still on this forum then? (sorry, just wondering).
Would be great if a magic pill made this hell dissolve ...

I'm on here to help people. And yes, I cured my hyperacusis and reactive tinnitus with keppra. Also trobalt helps directly for tinnitus. Those are two drugs which help with both of those conditions.

Hope that helps.

Yesterday I wanted to jump out of the window (like everyday). The thought of trying Trobalt and Keppra keeps me alive.
I used to take tranquilizers when I couldn't take it anymore and wanted to bash my head against the wall. But since there are eno
What can I do besides distracting myself and waiting, nothing :/ I also have reactive T and H.

In your case I'd hope that yours will return to baseline. I have more of a brain Tinnitus, than noise exposure T.

I wanted to post both links, but Danny already did that. It's worth checking out when nothing helps and you have catastrophic T. It can be hard to get both, you either will have to get them prescription free in Spain or have a friendly doctor give you that off label medication. Sure, it's risky, but so is catastrophic T.

I swear nobody looks around, which is why I have to keep mentioning these drugs.

Thank you, Danny. I will read through there and give them possibly a try. My only worry is that they make things worse :( ... a lot of drugs are known to be ototoxic.

Neither keppra or trobalt are ototoxic. Hope that helps.

Get a grip Katarina! ... chill down ... don`t start fantasizing about future and all sorts of rubbish like ending things ... now you just need to relax as much as possible ... improvement comes if you step out of the way emotionally ... just do what you usually do when this happens ... seems to have worked so far.

really, all the freaking out is much worse than the actual thing that happend ... I lie in bed to with raging T ... but I just have to distance myself from it ... it is there no matter what so best you try not to be there emotianlly ...

Katrina,

Been to the edge of the ledge, many times, but I'm still here trying to fight for my life. Hope is lost, if life is lost.

Get out and about, to distract yourself. You've have had T since 1986! That means you know how to live with it. This spike will most likely settle down and you'll be back at your baseline.

God bless,

Sailboardman

I thought you were already on the Island unpacking your bags and building your beach house.....

I am due to leave on Monday .... now thinking that I will not be there to leave ...

I've had T since 1986 but it became a problem again after 24 years of not being a problem and it now has been 4 years since!

Thank you all for your support but I am truly hanging off the edge now ...

How will moving to an isolated island be the answer? Look, get some keppra and trobalt and you'll be right as rain again.

I think if you did it before , u can do it again ! Hold on

Moving to an isolated island just promised me smaller incidence of acoustic traumas and bigger chance for my ears and nerves to heal ... It was supposed to be an experiment. A chance for me.

It seems like it is too late though ...

My ears are too fucked up. Four years of this hell and I am as badly off as at the start of it.

Well, as I said, get keppra at the very least....

I know it's silly coming from me, as I worry constantly, but you really shouldn't. According to online phone tests (for example http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_ace_s5830-3724.php), phone loudspeakers generally don't reach more 75-80 dB, the model you are referring to maxes out @ about 70 dB. So it will not cause any damage, even though at certain frequencies, like that of alarms, it might seem louder, but phone speakers are not powerful enough to really cause hearing damage.

It did seem incredibly loud ... all the more so since I was sitting in a quiet room ... and right next to it.

I've switched it off completely. Happy not to use a phone ever again in my life!

Thank you LeQuack for taking the time to find out the volume level ..

My sound tolerance level is really low, so I guess 70 dB, especially in this frequency, is just bloody painful for me.

I fell asleep for an hour ... exhausted ... ringing loud ...

Thank you all for your support. This thing is so isolating and even those close to me cannot possibly phantom how terrifying this condition is.

I'll let you know if I do make it to the island, or anywhere for that matter.

I am extremely stressed and juiced out and .. at the end of my tether.

Maybe it is possible that the stress of your upcoming move has made everything seem worse. Just moving house is incredibly stressful; I imagine moving to your island is much more so, since there are so many unknowns. I get spikes more easily when I am stressed. It seems pretty sure it will go down again if the noise exposure was only 70dB.

The stress probably will not totally go until after your move, but hopefully it will soon after that. Good luck. :)

Thank you, dBoy. Yes, I am very stressed about my impending move and have been stressed for several weeks now. Also, I have a neck pain issue too (from someone trying to fix my ears!!), which has been particular bothering me lately. So that does not help either ...

It is all too much for me.

I mean, to be completely frank with all of you you, this island, under any other circumstance, would be a dream come true. But I am in a situation, where my biggest dream is not to suffer anymore. And no matter how far I run from noises, no matter how idyllic my surroundings will be, the noises in my head will continue to pester me as they have for the last 4 years. Also, running away and becoming a total recluse is not really a solution for someone who actually loves people and has - prior to all this - loved being around them. This condition is so isolating.

So if I do make it to the island, which could be a real paradise, I might actually end up drowning intentionally in the sea ....

It's bad.

Which island is it? I would love to come.

It is not really an island. I just use it as a metaphor. It is my own island ... a nature haven, in Italy, a secluded medieval tower .... The sea is not far. Neither are the islands.

Nice...I hope it helps...But seriously get some keppra.

So maybe you can travel to a town when you want to be around people and enjoy the gentle, natural existence the rest of the time?

If you are going to do it, try to go in with optimism otherwise you might unintentionally sabotage your chances of adapting and making it a positive experience. Remember it does not have to be forever.... it is a retreat from the noise and chaos of modern life to think and to rest and to reinvent yourself to some extent if that is something that you would like to do. When the time comes to leave then you make the arrangements and you leave. It does not matter how long or short a time away that is.

You are doing a very brave thing, but also kind of a logical one too... how you have been living recently has not been working for you so you are trying something else.

If you feel lonely you could always send for Danny Boy and get him to pay you rent in Keppra and Trobalt. ;)

You've made me smile, dboy. That's quite something given my situation!

My ears are so "puffed up" now ... listening to rain sound to drown the din in my head. What an utterly maddening condition this is.
