Anyone find that a thunderstorm increases their tinnitus?

We had one last night for about an hour and my left ear was whining like mad as if it was in competition to see who could get louder.

The tinnitus calmed down after the thunderstorm passed but this got me thinking was it caused by the electricity in the air or just a spike maybe caused by stress (although thunderstorms don't bother me)???

So, when I read your question, the first thing I thought about was migraines, as humidity is a trigger for many people. I have also noticed my tinnitus is connected to migraines too--I always get a spike before and during an attack. All of that's to say that there could be a neurological component at play here; perhaps the humidity that brings about a thunderstorm triggered a tinnitus spike.

Thanks for your reply.

Funny you mention headaches because I woke up with a severe pain behind my right eye which wouldn't shift, I've never had a migraine (that I know of) and just put this down to hormonal changes but now... I wonder.

The low rumble after a thunder (about 75-85 dBC inside a house) is actually quite dangerous. I've gotten a spike in the past.
