Poll: Which of the Following Would You Describe as Hyperacusis?

Sometimes it is tough to judge what someone means when they say they have hyperacusis. Thought this poll might give a snapshot of what people mean. Each answer assumes no other symptoms are present to help clear up definitions. Obviously people with hyperacusis usually have many of the symptoms listed.

I would say in my case that it's certain loud or high frequency sounds that are loud for me - like sudden ones. Car horn going off, bell ringing, Kid screaming suddenly, slamming door. I am usually pretty good with everyday sounds though

I think being sensitive to suddens sounds is common and there are physiological reasons for why that might be. Maybe this just falls under mild or moderate hyperacusis. When people say everyday sounds, I think they actually mean sounds that wouldn't be expected to cause pain or discomfort.

When I had hyperacusis it was the amplification that annoyed me the most..Everything was so so loud. I feel for anyone who suffers from it. Thanks for the poll, I'm sure it will enlighten people about the condition ^_^.

People need to stop using words with so many friggen S'sssssssssss in them that's my gripe.

Seems to me that the definition of hyperacusis alternates between outright loudness and searing frequency shifts, sometimes with blending of the two. I think that physical pain occurs when myoclonus comes along for the ride.
