Post Your Favorite Anime/Cartoons

Saturday morning cartoons was a really big thing for me as a kid. Some of my personal favorites:

Might as well put this legendary meme here.

Beyblade - LET IT RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEDABOTS!
M-M-M-M-MAKE YOUR MOVE, YU-GI-OH!!!

Funny thing, where I am these weren't Saturday morning cartoons.

Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, Monster Rancher, Pokémon (and some others I can no longer recall the names of) are reminiscent of weekday mornings for me.

Would start from 6am (running until 10am, despite school starting times being around 9am throughout England) on Sky One, and would frequently make me late.
Dragon Ball > Dragon Ball Z

Change my mind.
Where's the "controversial" award option?

I'm not going to try and change your mind, but I can't back you up if you get into trouble over this either.

It's not that I didn't like Dragonball. I did. But Z was epic, and rekindles far too much nostalgia in me, to place it below any other DB in the series.

That said, as long as we can all agree GT never happened, I think we can remain on good terms.
Samurai Jack (2001-2017)

Best cartoon series ever?
Hell yeah it is.
I think this is my favourite animated TV show ever.

I watched it every night from the night it aired on Cartoon Network in 2001. Then waited 15 years before watching the entire series again on All 4 in 2019 (this time with the 5th and final season included).

I felt like crying (but I didn't, because I learnt to master my emotions... watching Jack do the same throughout his journey, of course).
Might as well put this legendary meme here.
lol.

I'd ask if he really said this, but then, I remember him saying something to the effect of: people who draw anime hate how real humans look, in The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness. So yeah, weirdly, the guy appears to have a real stick up his butt about the industry he's played a prominent role in creating's fan base...

Now that you mention it, I do recall watching Beyblade weekday mornings right before school. Power Rangers too (light speed rescue or time force I think). I loved it when I would have the school day off just so I could watch the cartoon shows that played during school time hours. It was feel good AF.

But Yugioh, Pokemon, and Medabots were definitely Saturday morning. I remember getting exited and hyped to see the duel battles between Yugi and Kaibi.
Monster Rancher
Wait... there was a TV show for this? Holy shit, I had no idea. I thought they were only video games. Monster Rancher 1 + 2 on PS2 and Monster Hunter Advance on the GBA were some bomb ass games. Shout out to Suezo and Golem, they'll forever be my monSTARS. I'm getting all nostalgic here.

Yeah, I get why people are so fond of DBZ. The godly bruce faulconer soundtracks adds to the nostalgia as well. The Frieza saga was DBZ's highest point IMO. I dunno, I just really like the sense of adventure in Dragon Ball. It has charm. Before Goku was using instant transmission, Kid Goku's adventure felt so grand, like when he climbs Korin Tower for days. They nailed the size and scope of Kid Goku's adventures so meticulously.

I think my distaste for Dragon Ball Super has made me appreciate GT a lot more. Like for instance, SSJ4 transformation design is vastly superior than SSJ Blue lazy design.

I personally like the more grounded and child like spirit of Dragon Ball over Dragon Ball Z. I like Z but it becomes a lot less grounded for me and so it is harder to be invested at times.
Yeah, not to mention, the fights in Dragon Ball were so well choreographed. The World Martial Arts Tournament was so epic. The fights weren't even about power levels, it was more about using strategy and fighting techniques to defeat your opponents.

Yeah, Dragon Ball had more of a light fantasy motif with Marshall arts being the main subject matter. I do still like the first season being a retelling of "Journey to the West" which is just candy.

I really like Nichijou, a lovely, innocent yet whacky comedy anime.

And Mononoke (not "Princess Mononoke"), both for the amazing animation style and storytelling:

My favorite anime is Hikaru no Go, mostly because I like the board game Go, but also because I'm drawn to the deep bond formed between Hikaru and Sai.

I was transported, to faraway land, into the world where monsters rule.
I played the game like an ace!
Now we're in this place, to save the monsters from the evil Moo.

Spot on!

I watched both the Japanese version of DBZ and the US version.

This was one of those rare occasions where the English dub was far superior. And this was down to the amazing US voice actors and that legendary Bruce Faulconer soundtrack (as you said).
The Frieza saga was DBZ's highest point IMO.
The Namek Saga has never been bested by anything else in the DB universe (if you ask me).

I understand where you're both coming from, because Dragon Ball was so different to everything Toriyama later made. It's like the difference between The Terminator and Terminator Salvation; more story, less explosions and effects. The problem with that comparison though, is you'd have to imagine Salvation as the best film with explosions and effects ever made, and still being unbeaten, despite it's date of creation.
I do still like the first season being a retelling of "Journey to the West" which is just candy.
The whole thing was intended to follow the theme of Journey to the West, but then the weekly serialisation was plummeting in the Shōnen Jump popularity polls. So Toriyama was put under pressure by his editor to turn it into a "battle manga".

An interview where he shared this:

And that explains the evolution of DB into DBZ and it's following series'.

This actually happens a lot with Japanese comics, whereby their trajectory is shaped by the opinion of their target audience, rather than by the artist/author's artistic vision. Simply put, if you're not meeting approval targets, you get cut.

There's actually a great comic book about the Japanese artist/author's experience in the industry, called Bakuman (written and drawn by the same team that created Death Note). I recommend this to everyone with an interest in this thread.
I think my distaste for Dragon Ball Super has made me appreciate GT a lot more. Like for instance, SSJ4 transformation design is vastly superior than SSJ Blue lazy design.
Okay, so I have never watched Dragon Ball Super. I finally watched GT, 2 years prior to the start of the bad tinnitus ambushing me. As a result, I have seen Super on TV a few times, but sans subtitles (which are now a necessity in my viewing) it's going to have to wait.

But at the time of watching it, GT just felt like a bad dream. I think I finished the whole thing in around 2 days, then rinsed my brain.
Jack's intro theme song hasn't been topped yet either.
Gotta get back > Back to the past > Samurai Jack > Watch out!

Oi @Joe Cuber, I've never seen this before. But it's making me think of No Game No Life.

You ever watched that before?

A lot of fans of the book and subsequent animation hated the film (No Game No Life: Zero), but I loved it.

2000?cb=20191010010126.jpg

Thought it was actually better than the animated series (although I'm often on the wrong side of popular opinion).

and liked them; because I belong to a generation of degenerate man children that would like to date cartoon girls.
I'm bringing this post here. I'm gonna need a top 5 waifu list from you, so I can see what I'm up against. Pics preferably, you know... for "research."

Trust you to come up with the best question I've ever been asked on Tinnitus Talk, @ZFire.

Okay, so this is in ascending order of preference for/infatuation with, undermentioned waifus.

1. Sothis (Fire Emblem)
Sothis.png

My actual waifu (married her at the end of FE:3H), hence her position at the bottom of my list  (funny "ball and chain" joke).

Had my eye on Edelgard von Hresvelg ▼ throughout the campaign.
1200px-FETH_Edelgard.png

But apparently risking my life, and incurring the wrath of The Church of Seiros and The Immaculate One, for her, weren't enough to qualify as a fellow ruler and life partner. Women, eh? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Tenten (Naruto)
OIP.jpg

Not only is she an adorable waifu, she also doubles as a seriously lethal body guard.
%3a%2f%2f33.media.tumblr.com%2fa6bdc3acac321fd62f231ad12e5a2785%2ftumblr_nsfwtdyUmg1u6y1njo1_500.gif

Plus she's making bank as a mercenary Kunoichi, so there's not really much need to compete to be the breadwinner in the relationship. For the most part her time spent with you is going to be her leisure time between missions, and that's okay by me.

3. Carrie Fernandez (Castlevania)
a0343b90a6b54bbf7a446be3e712bf92--castlevania.jpg

Met when I was 9 and she was 12; so I consider her a childhood friend, and thus good potential waifu. Then there's the fact that, like Tenten, she is an effective deterrent against any powerful foes you may have. Plus she can whip up some mean Albondigas with those magic hand blasts.

Never had any trouble keeping focus on the mission at hand when fighting with her, despite my growing feelings, but if she got bitten, I would have to reset to the latest save point; because vampire Carrie was too much.

4. Twilight Sparkle (My Little Pony)
twilight.jpg

Because I believe our centaur children will stand the best chance of survival in the not so distant post-apocalyptic future, and I love nerds.

5. Mai Mashiro (Dead Tube)
f352acff0f2e6ab8c62a3b68dae08ed0.jpg

Young, pretty and fully committed (or soon to be, anyway).
2cc4e745-323d-4336-b321-89dc69825912.jpg

She'll cook for you, clean for you, and kill for you.

Actually, probably best if you do the cooking and cleaning in this relationship, because I don't know about you guys, but I'm sure as f*ck not going to ask when dinner is.
WgifFog&riu=http%3a%2f%2fvignette1.wikia.nocookie.net%2fdeadliestfiction%2fimages%2f4%2f40%2fMai.png

But at the end of the day, let's face it, psycho-waifu is best waifu.

Not gonna lie, I kinda like Twilight as well. My favorite, however, is Applejack.

I missed your comment @Damocles, I have not watched it, but now I'm intrigued.
Yeah, @Joe Cuber.

The animated series is only 12 episodes long -on account of the fact Madhouse never completed it (an incredibly common habit exhibited by animation studios)- but introduces you to the premise of the franchise.

The film on the other hand, provides the backstory to the animated series, so is best watched after you've completed that.

Reckon you'll enjoy them both if you like your Japanese cartoons in general.
(Just want to go out on a limb and say I've got nothing against anything in here. I'm something of a weeb myself lol)
