Prescribed Neomycin Nasal Cream — Should I Use It?

I have some sinus / ET infection recently with yellow bloody discharge, my GP prescribed me the Naseptin nasal cream (neomycin 0.5% / chlorhexidine dihydrochloride 0.1%) for topical use (in nose) twice a day for 2 weeks. I read about the ototoxicity of neomycin and aminoglycosides in general, and am really hesitant about taking it. Should I try and get a different cream? Are there any alternatives out there?

I have had tinnitus since this July, for no apparent reason, possibly a combination of ETD / minor TMJ disorders / long time headphone use. Only recently I have started to come to terms with it a bit better, the last thing I want is a spike or risk of it getting worse.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Some even say that it is one of the worst ones:

The "mycins" are the antibiotics class to avoid. The worst of these is neomycin.

I am not sure how this person knows this, however, there are many people on this forum who had trouble after neomycin

If I were you, I would ask my doctor for an alternative (and would look for that alternative on the list above, and would search this site, before taking it).

I'm doing salt, xylitol, sodium bicarb (aluminium free) and citrus seed extract drops mixed with a cup of filtered water up my nose with a NetiPot. Maybe consider something like this as an alternative...?

Thanks for your replies. I've spoken to my GP but he doesn't have any alternatives in mind, and said the small amount shouldn't matter (and neomycin only presents a problem when it's in iv infusion?). Anyway, I'll run down to the pharmacist to ask for advice later.
