Prostate Infection: Enterococci & Streptococci — What Antiobiotics Are Tinnitus Safe?

Hey,

So I have been off the forums for quite some time since I did pretty well in the last year and was able to cope with my tinnitus.

Today however I was diagnosed with a prostate infection, streptococci and enterococci to be precise (although very small amounts only) but my doctor told me I have to take antibiotics for it. Penicillin will not work as these bacteria are resistant to that.

When googling this, Gentamicin comes up as an antibiotic that is used for this which is really a no-no as it's highly ototoxic.

Has anyone ever had the same issue and can recommend a safe antibiotic?

Hi Bill,

Not all medications affect tinnitus so why not try this medication that your doctor has advised, then you will know whether it will affect the tinnitus. My blood pressure medicine is listed as can cause ringing the ears. I have been taking it for quite some time and it hasn't affected the tinnitus.

Update:

I have been prescribed Cotrim which is the same as Bactrim if I am not mistaken.

I searched the forums for Bactrim and there's obviously mixed experiences... Has anyone got any more info?

You might just have to weigh the odds between whatever complications you could have not taking the antibiotic vs possible worsening of tinnitus. I had to do the same several weeks ago with Doxycycline for a skin infection. I ended up just taking the antibiotic.

@Bill Bauer -- You may want to consider finding a naturopathic doctor who uses ozone therapy. My understanding is ozone can clear up all kinds of infections without resorting to antibiotics. I have a friend who recently had great success using ozone therapy for multiple oral infections.

I read recently the following from the below linked book (copyright 2017). In the book, the author talks about how a person can set up their own system of ozone treatment at home, but there are also options to purchase things like ozonated olive oil capsules that a person can take internally to get started.

Find out if this infection can go away on its own.

I've had tons of infections, from tooth to flesh eating; unless it's life threatening, don't take it. I never have, you body will fight it by itself.

It might take longer to heal, but you won't die.

If you take an antibiotic that pushes your tinnitus to the edge... the consequence could be MUCH, MUCH worse.

Find out the risk of not taking antibiotics, and make a decision based on that.

Say you don't take them, and you're in pain for a month? That's a very small price to pay to avoid an eternal increase in your tinnitus...

Hello bill. How did the prostatitis occur, are you already cured? I am in a similar situation and I would like to know how it went with the antibiotics and the evolution of the disease.

i don't know how it occurred - it just started gradually. I actually did not take the antibiotics because i went to another urologist who did not believe it was an actual bacterial prostatitis. I drank a lot of herbal tea and it went away eventually.
