Hearing loss due to loud headphones, possibly depression
I am thinking about taking some anti-anxiety medication to help calm me down; has anyone heard of such medication making tinnitus worse? If so, do you know what specific medication?

I am thinking about taking Zoloft low dosage to start out with.

You should speak with your doctor regarding this and the best medication to take.

Zoloft like other SSRI antidepressants can give people an initial spike as your body gets used to it. But they not ototoxic (eg. cause physical auditory damage like some chemo drugs and IV antibiotics) so it usually settles. You normally need to take this for about a month to get its full effect.

Again, your focus should be finding the best medication for your needs and your doctor can assist with this.

I take amitryptiline to help me sleep and ease my anxiety. I would avoid SSRIs as they always heightened my anxiety and screwed up my sleep. One of the nice side-effects of amitryptiline is sleepiness. I've just finished a week of antibiotics and my T seems louder now. I've started a course of probiotics to get my gut back to health. There has been some research lately showing that probiotics reduce anxiety. I presume that they work because they restore healthy gut bacteria and apparently most of our serotonin is our gut. Strange but true.

Another thing to try would be flax seeds. These are very rich in alpha linolenic acid, which is a precursor to the omega 3 called EPA. It has mood-elevating and anti-inflammatory properties. The flax must be ground fresh and used very soon as it is highly susceptible to peroxidation, like all omega 3s. You want to keep this stuff refrigerated.

I'm on Zoloft and it's working for me but your doctor will find the right medicine for you and most anti-depressants do take a few weeks to a month to start working so don t give up them to soon
