I'm a mom of a younger child. I've had both tinnitus and hyperacusis for about 12 weeks. The hardest part of all of this I think is the separation it places between you and your family. Mornings are particularly difficult as I find I am more sensitive to sounds first thing in the morning. I find wearing earplugs makes the tinnitus louder.

What strategies have you used while recovering and still take care of your family?

I have a hard time with this too. My five-year-old son is very rambunctious and always noisy. He is getting better and tries to not yell near my bad ear. I don't wear earplugs but try to be careful.

It is difficult with hyperacusis and an 8 year old. I can imagine how hard it is with a 5 year old. If we are doing something close-up I'll wear earplugs like in the car or when we are working on a project. :)

I have a 6-month old now. 3M X4As and Mack's Ultra Soft earplugs are my best friends now.
