Been to my retiral dinner and my tinnitus has responded accordingly by going crazy... what's the point of wearing ear plugs, they don't make a difference... the noise just sent my tinnitus crazy...

It's like when you have been at a noisy nightclub... You know that buzzing in your ears when you leave... Well it's that and more... Why does it do this...

I'm too scared not to put ear plugs in but they do nothing to stop the resulting racket... I'm trying to stay calm but it's not easy.

I have tinnitus now for three years and I just wish i was better at dealing with it. My social life is so much more curtailed now. I also have constant tinnitus which varies in sounds and intensity and pulsatile tinnitus in right ear for good measure.

I don't normally ramble on like this but I'm struggling at the moment and feel the need to vent.

Thanks for listening.
Susanne

Hi @su bernadette,

No need to apologize. We are here to listen and to, hopefully, help.

I am sorry that you are struggling. And I am sorry that tinnitus is affecting your social life. Unfortunately, as you know, that is very common amongst tinnitus sufferers. It can take a long time to learn to deal with tinnitus, and your ability to deal with it can vary day to day and week to week (I know mine certainly does). As one who has had tinnitus for quite a bit longer than three years, I can say that it will get easier with time. There will be times when you feel like you cannot take another second of it, but just hang in there, those feelings will pass. At three years in you are probably going to have to get used to it as you will probably have it for quite a while (which I am pretty sure you already knew, so I am not telling you anything new here).

I hope you are feeling better soon and that your tinnitus becomes more bearable. I understand your struggle and hope that your suffering ends or at lease eases soon.

In the same boat. My tinnitus spiked tonight. Trying to relax so I can fall asleep. You just need to remind yourself that it will lower again and you're having a bad day. Sometimes T can get a little angry sometimes but you have to talk the beast down. It sucks but think of something that makes you smile or makes you laugh. Clean the house, go for a walk, drink a ton of water. But most of all remember that it will calm down.

Susanne, it surely is a horrible beast and spoils socialising, sleep and relaxation. My tinnitus is crazy loud pretty much most of the time. I've had it bad for over 7 years. Unfortunately it keeps getting louder with time for me.

Mine is up down all around hissing. I only have mine for three months, but I already know stress and anxiety that came with it. I been trying to deal with stress and forcing myself to stay with a routine of things. It's hard to stay focus on anything. Ear plugs did not work for me, I did buy homeics sound machine which plays different sounds so I can relax at times. I think staying to a routine and forcing yourself to do little things you like to do helps. I hope you feel better.

I think my shock is there is no medical treatment or cure and it isn't even a thought and I think that should be the awareness that when you get T there is no medical thought and no correct medication or cure. I hope with awareness next year the t community can get justice for this disease, yes to me disease. And hope to get peace.

Hi Susie,
Im sure your ears will calm down again and so important you get out and about to keep your mood up .
Retirment can be stressful and im sure you will miss parts of your job as I know what you do as we know eachother from off the BTA.
Love glynis

Feel for you, and very much in the same boat. My T spiked a few weeks ago, and sometimes they do go down to a tolerable level, mine is also reactive. You just have to tell yourself it will retreat at some stage. I also have horrid feeling of fullness, which is worse than the terrible buzzing.
Keep calm, meditate, do something crafty, ANYTHING to distract yourself.
