Really Need Help Here. So Worried.

Slightly unable to describe my anger. This morning, with the new tinnitus onset, my brother, of 3 years, starts shouting in the car. So so annoyed. I'm so so hoping damage wasn't done I covered my ears but obviously i was exposed for a bit. He shouted many times unexpectedly.

I've read this string of posts and can offer this bit of advice. I'm not an "expert" in T&H, but I have had them twice in my life. 1st time 12 years ago it completely faded to zero in about 2 years. I got T&H again 20 months ago, and it has faded at least 90%. (H completely gone)
Both times it was caused by acoustic trauma (Very loud power equipment, and loud outdoor concert). Both times the T was screaming loud, and the H was unbearable. Nothing I have read here suggests you were exposed to any acoustic trauma that would loud enough to cause permanent T. Lot's of people get exposed to loud noise (Concerts, clubbing, gunshots, power equipment, ect.. and get Tinnitus from it, and the vast majority completely recover within 2 years.

So my advice is to protect your ears from loud noise, don't use headphones (ever), and try to accept the fact that this T & H may take up to 2 years to fully fade, but IMO it will fade most likely to zero. The "everyday" acoustic shocks you experience are just part of life (it is a loud world out there) and will not cause permanent damage like a 4 hour rock concert would.
You are young and that works in your favor for healing. I am 58 years old and mine is healing, but probably slower.

Kids scream at me all the time....they seem really loud but I don't think they do damage.
Well my situation has worsened. So on Wednesday, a kid threw a computer mouse on the table next to me. The next morning, I had a new tinnitus (high pitched) in the ear that was next to the computer mouse. It's now returned after listening to rain again. I'm worried I've been listening to the white noise too loud. Never been using earphones btw but sometimes my phone speaker is quite close? This high pitched ring in my right ear is back.

Right. Something very major had just happened.

So I went to get a drink of cola, and it was a new bottle. I opened it, and the gas made the lid pop really loudly as it came off and the loud noise of the gas rushing out. Oh dear oh dear :(

New tinnitus likely from the kid throwing his computer mouse has just worsened.

Oh no ;-(

So not only was it the until pop of the lid but the after noise of the gas escaping. Oh no oh no

And now I've just been next to a pop up toaster releasing the bread. Is this bad? Tinnitus gone up.

It will settle... I was very irritated and tired this morning and was stressing about a lot of stuff including T....as soon as I went fishing after it about ad hour later it went back down to almost nothing....go do something for awhile and forget for a minute and see what happens.
I've just been right next to the pop up toaster as it pops up the bread. Was not expecting it to be that loud. Is this dangerous? Tinnitus has spiked.

No offense meant but can you please take a reality check? Your tinnitus HAS NOT spiked from the sound of a toaster popping. It hasn't spiked from all those other sounds you've been worried either. You really need to stop worrying about normal everyday sounds. You're paranoid and obsessive now.

Please keep in mind that the original poster is 15 years old and that it might be harder for him to receive the support he needs, depending on how his family helps him with his situation. But I completely agree that stressing over every slightly louder sound will not help, though it can be hard to break the cycle as we want to protect our ears.

My tinnitus would temporarily spike from the sound of a toaster or a can opening loudly but that's because I also have hyperacusis. My tinnitus used to spike when someone whispered to me but that doesn't mean it actually caused more damage.
A spike doesn't automatically mean more damage has been done.

If these sounds made tinnitus permanently worse then everyone would eventually end up with severe tinnitus and that's just not the case.

When I say a spike, there's also a new tone in the ear closest. Pretty unlucky huh

I don't know how this happened, whether it was from that loud crash of the mouse on the table next to me, the bottle or toaster, but there's now a new reactive tinnitus in my right ear. I cannot believe this. I mean I seriously think that the kid lobbing his computer mouse straight onto the table could've done something. It was right next to me. I woke up with the tone the next morning which suggests there was hair cell death? I mean it was literally the kind of sound that makes you feel fullness for a second or two. I plug my ears I hear the new sound. If I blow with my ears plugged it reacts with that. This is NEW. Some of these sounds must've been bad. And considering reactive tinnitus is usually consequences of noise trauma... I feel like I've had a noise trauma as I've mentioned. What even counts as acoustic trauma?

I had spikes where I would have a new tone for a week, maybe longer. Other members on here have posted about hearing new tones for days to months before they went away. I can completely understand if those new tones are freaking you out... Do they eventually go away or are they staying?

Hi please read the above

Conclusion: new reactive tinnitus in right ear following some very loud exposures in my opinion. The biggest one, a kid chucking a computer mouse full force into the table very very close to my right ear, which is where the tinnitus has started. @Autumnly @Contrast

Alright folks for anyone interested in helping me out here, I have a new rattling sound in my right ear, like a morse code sound. However; your telling me these exposures are not harmful. I'll remind you:

Boy throws computer mouse full force on table next to me

Toddler shouting in car

Fizzy bottle opening

Toaster pop up

For god sake. Washed out my rubber noise filtering plugs. Upon putting in right ear, the sound of the small amount of water left started popping around in my ear and the plug started making big noises with the liquid as I tried to insert it. I kept taking it out because I was like, oh god, and re trying to put it in. Every time the plug makes these huge sounds in my ear where the water was in my ear canal. Is this bad?

Someone please respond with the answer to whether the noises produced by earplugs and water in the ear is dangerous. Like the way how when the plug moves it pops and makes the liquid crackle loudly. New tone started (fleeting). What an awful awful situation. I'm 15 and I somehow manage to get tinnitus accidentally like this. Repeatedly trying to get this plug in with the liquid in my ear has made the new tinnitus louder. Just going round and round in circles. Back to square one and even square -10

Guys why is there now rattling in my right ear... Oh my god

Update all:
My history teacher went crazy at a student. I've never heard him shout like that ever, and I was like maybe 2 metres away (though my ears were not directly in like with his mouth). Others were close but haven't been affected like I have. I think my hearing is a bit muffled. Acoustic trauma? The shouting was probably 5 seconds possibly.

As expected. Massive reactivity increase. Noise is loud in silence

Well. Guess no one is interested but I have again been exposed to some nasty sounds. My brother slamming my bedroom door shut whilst a window was open, creating a draft for the door to slam hugely.

Then 15 mins later, whilst filming a video, I whacked my papery lamp shade and it made an almighty bang. I have a question though.

Even though I felt a small bit of pain for the door slam, does that really mean it was at the pain threshold of like 130 dB?

Or can hyperacusis affect where the threshold is? Would be surprised if it really was that loud!

Not 130db for sure. You may have hyperacusis which accentuates things so that 90db sounds like ~105. I measure sounds almost as a hobby, and toaster popping and oil splattering from bacon can be 90db, yes. Your reaction though is showing that your ears must be tender.

Protect them while in this phase if possible. Possibly get some earplug which cut off 10-20db.

Good luck.

I'll modify my statement slightly about doors and 90db. Simple things like clapping can be over 90db (93 just now) I also just slammed a microwave door and got 95db.

The other problem with loud noises is that they generally have all frequencies from 0-20kHz and beyond, so we are getting high energy on those high freqs. Our poor ears!

Hi. Had a very very sad incident. I was in the car with my dog and she barked right next to my ear! Luckily it was a more quieter bark, you know? Still, it was very close to my ear! Great! Damage done?
(I now hate my dog) I think there now a ringing in that ear. So unlucky. But I suppose on the flip side, it was one bark and a more suttle bark. I didn't really feel any pain. Just very scared of damage? Would appreciate any response but I swear there's now a ringing in my right ear?

She was also barking multiple times in the house near me moments before and my existing tinnitus has gone way up (left ear). Oh no :( my dogs consistent barking has given me loud ringing. @PortalNaut

Damage done? (dogs...)

I don't know the actual physiology of how the damaged haircells/tubes withstand additional HIGHER air frequencies, but I would encourage protection. If your dog is a barker, you may have to keep tissues/earplugs in your ears while he/she is close by you.

As to life, it must be lived, but you must find a way not to accentuate anxiety. Listen frequently to music, or take walks or whatever it is that can help restore (and keep) calm.

I hope you find things get better.

Hello, a new T sufferer here, right now my mother just talk a bit too loud and I felt the T which has pretty much disappeared in the afternoon, so I get why you are angry. I was also suffering from severe anxiety, so I get what you are feeling now, although in mine case it was insomnia and not sound related. You are worrying about every accident. This is normal. You are venting it here, which is great! I was keeping it all bottled which was a bad idea.
So listen to what I have to say. My mind was and still is prone to search for the worst possible outcome and to project it as most realistic. Right now I fear that I'll develop a roaring tinnitus. Before, I was convinced that I have an incurable insomnia, which does not respond to treatment. After that, I was convinced that if I start taking the drug Zopiclone, I will become an addict. In other, more bizzare circumstances, I was convinced that I will get an anterograde amnesia after visiting the dentist, after reading an article and watching the movie "Memento".
My point is that when you have a mind, trained to search for negativity, the advice to just sit back and relax becomes unachievable. I was actually annoyed when people told me not to worry. I could not relax in any way, but I have discovered a way to take my mind off anxiety, when it becomes to bothersome. It may not work to you, but because I see symptoms, similar to mine, I hope to help.
My advice is counter-intuitive. Please don't laugh. Watch a real scary movie, a horror about ghosts and demons, which is truly frightening, like "Annabelle" or "Insidious". I have done so in the part during extreme stress and it has helped me. Why? Because supernatural is VERY scary and your negative mind focuses on it. However, no matter how afraid are you, you won't see a ghost. OK? So your mind is preoccupied with a stress, which has taken your mind from your health issues. You will have trouble ranging from between few hours and few days, but as the shock lessens, your anxiety calms down.
This advice is not medical or scientific, although I have read articles which suggest that horror thrillers (not gorefests) LESSEN anxiety as you feel it under controlled situation. I feel that you NEED to stop thinking so much about T and I am not sure that you can relax. So watch a movie, or if you are afraid about your T, read a book, like The Shining or the Amytiville Horror.
It is a harsh therapy, but it does becomes pleasant with time.
Now I hope that mods excuse me. This is my personal advice to someone who seems affected in similar ways to me. I hope that I help and I don't sound too weird.
Good luck and please keep us updated.

Thanks but my reactive tinnitus and regular tinnitus has surged after the incident and basically is roaring as I lie here in bed. I don't know what to do. I just hate my dog now. She's damaged my ears. I don't want her anymore.

For anyone reading, all I want to know is whether you think damage occurred. I've outlined all the details above. My reactive tinnitus (hypercausis) is worse now. Will it go back to normal? Look I'm not really coping here this dog incident has ruined me again. She's made my tinnitus worse and I'm even hearing new sounds.
