Recovery

Ladies and gentlemen (only),
I think we have to appreciate that some people suffer with both intellectual and emotional impoverishment, and remain totally unaware of both.
As such, they become a laughing stock - so don't forget to give them a well deserved 'smiley face' at every opportunity!
(No names - no pack drill)

They will have us think that only a cure is the answer, and they scoff at any other method of recovery. These people are so wrong, and are doing a disservice to the tinnitus community.
"These people". Who exactly? Most people with severe tinnitus on here have tried several treatment options from CBT, seeing tinnitus specialists to acupuncture and so on. The goal, ideally, should be a cure. I'd be happy with just a reduction in volume. Habituation doesn't mean a happy end for everyone, there are millions of people who just endure t/h every day.

@DebInAustralia: Perhaps. I think these members are being led down the wrong path though. As you and I both know habitation is a reality. They will have us think that only a cure is the answer, and they scoff at any other method of recovery. These people are so wrong, and are doing a disservice to the tinnitus community. Congratulations to you too.

What works for one person isn't guaranteed to work for another. Imagine if each illness/disease/condition that an individual takes medicine for only had one option. Well! If a person's body didn't take kindly to that one and only medication available, they'd be out of luck!

People are so different from each other. It's the same for both the physical and the mental aspects.

Callous unkind people.....

@TheDanishGirl: I apologize for feeling better. I know it bothers you that I'm not miserable. Maybe if you listened more, things could turn around for you as well.
But why are you so condescending? You are running a bulldozer through a field of lambs, there is no need for the aggressiveness...you can probably convey your message just fine without kicking people while they are already down.

@Autumnly: Just enduring isn't habituation. Will all endure in some way or another. Habituation is forgetting or not caring that your ears even ring. After they have been making a racket for a length of time, you just get used to the ringing, and it doesn't bother you anymore. It is the new normal, and it is no different than when your ears didn't ring. I have severe tinnitus to this day, but it doesn't bother me. Let me think - yes they are ringing right now, but it doesn't matter. No problem. I realize some people have Ménière's disease, and other severe forms of the condition, which aren't applicable to my point. I'm talking to the severe and profound tinnitus people. When I first went to the ENT, I asked him for sleeping pills, under no condition he said. You must get used to it. I thought to myself. I can't endure this torture. But the bastard was right. I got used to it.

Well said coffee girl!

I am happy for people who can habituate......And I do believe most people will habituate. Never said otherwise!......BUT......and this is a big but (or BUTT :D) that doesnt change the fact that some will probably never habituate and that condescending arrogant tone that Anselmo has had from the get-go toward these unlucky people, is totally uncalled for, and makes me loose all respect for him.

Plus......now he goes around on this forum commenting various posts with dumb remarks, which makes makes him loose even more credibility. He is nothing more to me then what he called me.......a good ole' troll.

Great now I have baby got back by Sir Mix-a-Lot stuck in my head

What is that? A song or jingle? Oh - I don't think I want it in my head too.....:wacky:never mind.

It's one of the worst songs ever to come out of the music industry. I had a nice gif to put up but it may be a bit too inappropriate

Still better to suffer with this then T:p

No truer words have been said.

We may have found a cure :woot: get people to listen to "Baby got back" on a loop and it will force the brain to override the T (on a low volume of course :wideyed: )

If that's your definition of habituation then millions of people are not able to habituate and this is not their fault, it's the brutal reality of tinnitus.

@Anselmo You obviously are proud to be simple and ignorant about what sufferers go through, I can tell you have no scientific knowledge on what causes tinnitus, hearing loss and other otological conditions, or what is going on in research labs and the clinic now to treat them. It appears you disregard science advancing as nonsense, and immediately jump on the band wagon of resilience, mental toughness and living to suffering as if they were a good thing.

I have tried to reason with you in chat, and you basically dismissed everything I have said by calling me paranoid and socially akward. This isn't dick measuring competition it's about getting people real help, not trying to think of an edgy comeback to say to someone suffering from burning ear pain. I want to make sure they get help!

People here don't want to suffer and as a team on the forum we accomplished a lot such as me shutting down a mass scam organization, and all of us staying informed on research updates. I can't stand the fact that people with the same common problems aren't fighting for the same goal.

Very well said @Contrast - a good assessment.
Mind you - have you noticed the muscles on his Avatar?

I hear you.

But I'll still reiterate. There are others here who are struggling; no fault of their own necessarily.

Be kind. Someone was compassionate to you once. This is a support forum.

I'm saddened to see members turning on each other.

Compared to some threads this one is actually quite a heartwarming show of unity.

I don't have the time or the inclination to answer my "hate mail". If I got through to one person, then I can consider my time on this forum, not a total waste of my time. Good luck, and goodbye.

After two years of severe tinnitus, my shrink put me on 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. I had a new lease on life. I wasn't sleeping at all, and the mirtazapine put me out the first night, and I didn't look back. My tinnitus was still severe, but at least I was sleeping.

After some time, my tinnitus became more moderate, and I cut back on the mirtazapine, spitting the 7.5 in half.

After some time, I stopped taking the mirtazapine completely.

Now everything is great. My tinnitus still varies from moderate to severe, but it doesn't bother me. It is the new normal.

Waiting for a cure isn't realistic. I don't think scientists are breaking down doors, to cure 10 percent of tinnitus patients.

That means you are depending on other people to help you. We all know how that ends.

I'll be thinking of you when I'm reducing my tinnitus using Bi-Modal Stimulation in a few weeks! :)

Congratulations Anselmo. I am a severe sufferer. This condition has changed my life to debilitating. I will not go into details to keep this short. Let's just say I have not had one day that I have not cried since I woke up with this horrible condition. I don't know what it's like to feel relaxed anymore. I have no choice but to take medication and this coming from someone against taking meds for simple things. I never knew this condition existed. It hurts to see when someone posts a success story and turns into a negative. I wish you continued success and for everyone here including me to get to a better state. Hope and compassion for all.

yeah dude atleast wait for better options, I don't recommend cutting the audiotory nerve.

Tinnitus is the brain compensating for a loss of hearing, cutting the nerve could jack up the gain and make tinnitus permanently loud, however we don't know it's a crude gamble.
