Hello everyone,

I'm currently dealing with a situation with a bout of fleeting tinnitus that came on randomly. All of a sudden hearing dropped in one of my ears, and the other developed a heightened ringing that would change depending on my neck position. The ear with the heightened ringing also feels like it has pressure in it.

It seems to be hanging around after about 30 min. I am trying to stay calm and relax my shoulders, but it's still hanging around.

I know sometimes fleeting tinnitus can come on like this can last a couple of hours, but it seems to be now spiking every about 10 minutes in the ear with the heightened ringing when I try and loosen my shoulders. Has anyone experienced this before in relation to neck tightness?

I am also wondering if this is something like ETD?

Quick follow up.

Things seem to have calmed down back close to normal thankfully. But it took almost a good 12 hours to do so. I even had one or two more smaller moments of fleeting T in the early morning hours. I still feel some pressure, but I think that may just be from me clenching my jaw a bit in the night. Phew that was a scary one!

It seems that this was somehow somatically linked. Over the last couple of years, when my shoulders and neck get really tight, it seems to set this off. I'm going to go for a walk this afternoon and focus on loosening my shoulders a bit.

I've also wondered if this tension trigged some ETD as well. As my ears echoed a lot of the symptoms of it (wet feeling in ear, spike in t, fleeting t).

This all happens RIGHT as tomorrow I am moving to a new city and and am starting a new job - because of course, why the heck not!

I have noticed that some of my fleeting tinnitus is related to neck movements (quickly moving my neck to face another/different person, or lying down in a twisted way).

Mine only last a few seconds.

Hmmmm. The fluctuating ring in my right ear seems to be hanging around. But it wasn't as bad as last night. Hopefully it continues to go down....

If anyone has any experience with this I would greatly appreciate hearing from you!

That's interesting @Lilah ! Glad to hear that it only lasts a few seconds! :)

@kmohoruk Hi man, just checking in. I had an experience two nights ago just like yours it lasted about six hours. I also had real bad reactive tinnitus to any louder sounds. The whole thing has gone away for my luckily and back to normal tinnitus levels.

I'm thinking this is just a severe case of fleeting tinnitus which in some ways is comforting because it is not known to be dangerous. I'd recommend getting a script of prednisone and if a high dose is taken the moment it occurs again, well it's better to be safe then sorry. Also a good idea to keep the following anti oxidants at hand and same idea take a big dise(resveratrok querciten astaxanthin black rice extract) let me know how you are. ;)

I experience this 4-5 times a year where one of the ear starts ringing very loudly and pressure builds up almost as if I have a HUGE CHUNK of wax and is blocking my ear. This just happened to my right ear. I was sleeping on the couch and it woke me up!! Super scary. It's still there but I am hoping it keeps going down ... last thing I need is this. Lol.

I'm sorry to hear that happened man. I'm glad to hear though that it didn't hang around and dissipated soon after.

I consulted with my tinnitus clinician and she said it was likely the somatic part of my tinnitus acting up (i.e., my should were quite tight). It has mostly dissipated, but it was definitely a freaky thing to go through.

I would avoid prednisone for minor use. I have a script but only for emergency (i.e. exposed to an explosion, air horn close range, sudden permanent loss in hearing). In my opinion, people take prednisone way too much around here. It has some extremely nasty side effects that I don't want to mess with! Thanks for following up with me and the info! :)

I'm sorry to hear that Sara! How are things now? Any better?
