Ringing Sounds in Right Ear for 9 Days?

I got my ear wax extracted from both ears on April 27th. Afterwards my right ear still felt muffled and on the night of April 28th I arrived home from a trip to The Smoky Mountains and noticed a ringing in my right ear.

Ever since then - it's now May 6th - I've had a ringing in my right ear. I notice it the most in a quiet room and have had to sleep with the fan on ever since. Sometimes when I swallow my left ear will crackle.

In addition to the ringing my right ear also gets muffled again. I have never had any troubles with my ears as I am only 17 but I do have really small ear canals so wax builds up quickly.

My family doctor prescribed me "Neomycin Polymyxin B Sulfates and Hydrocortisone Otic Solution" but it only helps a little bit.

Will this ringing noise ever go away? I've stressed and, believe it or not, cried myself to sleep the past few nights worrying that it won't ever go away.

How do I know if it is temporary? I don't go back to the doctor until Thursday and today is Saturday.

Please help!!

Hi Autumn,

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to learn that you are going through this issue, especially at such a young age. You should visit a specialist (ENT) and also get a comprehensive hearing exam.

HI Autumn,
I have just written a post about microsuction and Irrigation in this forum. Before having the earwax removed, did you apply eardrops in each ear 2 to 3 times a day for 7 to 10 days before having the wax removed? What procedure did you have. Microsuction or irrigation?
Michael

I only applied it in the muffled ear (the right ear). My right ear is the only one experiencing the ringing and muffledness. I put ear drops in every day a few days before I went to get my ear wax removed. They used the irrigation technique of shooting warm water into the ear and letting the wax fall out. A day after that is when the ringing started.

That's funny. For me, clearing my ears actually quietens the sound. I'm curious as to how you hear the sound after cleaning your ears.
Maybe they pushed some of the wax further in to the ear I'm really not sure. I really regret getting themcleaned now. I'm scared this will never go away.

I recommend using eardrops 3 times a day for 10days before having irrigation or microsuction. Hopefully the tinnitus will go away in time.
All the best
Michasel

Do your ears still feel full, or filled? If they feel clear after the cleaning process, there should not be any more wax inside. Did they take a look inside your ear after they cleaned it?

It will feel full during the day but during the early mornings it feels clear. They looked at my ears afterwards and didn't see any wax.

I have an doctors appointment thursday and I'll ask if he can refer me to an ENT. This whole thing is making me feel sick.

Did your T begin before or after you started taking Neomycin? Neomycin has been known to be ototoxic and very well could be the cause of your tinnitus if it began after you started that antibiotic.
