Saw Private ENT Specialist Today

I saw an ENT specialist today. I paid for a private one.

He says zero ear infection left, no fluid, redness etc. and believes a vent in my ear will relieve the pressure in my head that he believes is causing the strain on my left ear.

Booked in hopefully next week for a head scan to see what the crack is but he also said that tinnitus can be cured but I'd just be deaf, some nerve he talked about that sends signals to brain.

Anyway will get the scan and take it from there, the pressure in head/sinus and shooting pain here and there are my symptoms but he's confident I'll be fine and won't be anything to worry about.

There's history in my family with cancer but we shall see, just have to hang in there until the tests are done.

Mad though that to see this guy on NHS was July next year and paying private it was a week.

cutting the AN is know to make tinnitus worse in some cases, tinnitus is a brain problem as a result of ear damage.

Yikes, this is drastic measures. Can you imagine completely deaf 100% With only tinnitus to keep you company 24/7? How loud will your tinnitus be? How will you hear sirens go off? Would it even matter? I hope you're not considering it :/

It could work but it's a risky manouver... there was an experiment in the 90's where they cut the auditory nerves of bunch of tinnitus sufferers with about 60% success.

There is no follow up that I can find on the ones that were not successful, but I imagine that most of them would be dead by now.

If you are desperate enough to cut the auditory nerve to get rid of tinnitus and if it fails, you now lose the only thing that is still somewhat helping you survive, which is masking sounds.

On one hand I respect the fact that this guy is not mucking around, he sees T for the sneaky evil bitch she is and wants to snuff her out by any means at his disposal.....but I would second other posters concerns that if you're gonna buy in to this guys high stakes table, be aware that deafness with T is potentially in the deck....That's a game you don't walk away from my friend.

I absolutely agree with @Bam. After an Audiologist f****** up my auditory system & mental well-being through a 'so called' 'safe' Microsuction procedure, I wouldn't let another 'medical' person near my ears! Scarred for life, you could say!!

I'm not considering the nerve thing I'm just stating he told me this, he sees no ear infection and my sinus is fine.

Hearing is great, actually mentioned that it's above average and that the pressure is the issue causing my issue.

I'm to get a scan first to see if there is another reason for this issue but he thinks from my symptoms it'll be a vent job to relieve the issue and when the pressure isn't bad my tinnitus isn't as bad. Something is clearly causing my issue, checked jaw with no issue so we will see I'll get sorted some way or another

I've had cancer in my family before but hoping it's not that, my tinnitus is very loud, over the past 2 months it started to gradually get louder in left ear and the pressure built at same time, can't be a coincidence imo. Pressure isn't there 24/7 but never is it fully away.

As I said before T is a sneaky piece of shit. IMO unless you get very lucky nobody knows what the hell is going on and it's all mostly pot luck in terms of it getting better.

Surely if you've got no hearing loss, no infection, no disorders etc it shouldn't be there. There's symptoms with me, lots of pressure in my head that came out of the blue when the ringing got bad, so something isn't right. Anyone I've seen on here with bad tinnitus seems to know the cause.

Went and saw my ENT.

I need to get a scan as the tinnitus has been severe but the pressure has died down the past week, tho I feel it comes and goes and is lingering around the front of my head atm, is it common to have this pressure at front of head?

Seems to annoy or make you more aware of the tinnitus as it seems to have died down slightly.

Update on my condition.... got scan and although a little swollen from the cold everything was fine.

Still the same issues tho, I'm constantly feeling blocked and the back of my throat feels like I can't talk properly at times, bad pressure headaches around front temple, nausea and then an increase in the ringing.

Seems to happen in episodes that last any length of time. It's been over a week at its worst this time.

When it's just the ringing I can manage it and seems to die down but with all at once it's seriously hard to cope with.

Anyone any ideas?

Tinnitus can casue a feeling of pressure in the head, but if you don't have any major hearing loss, I doubt this would be the case.

Agree. No doctor worth his salt should ever go near saying cutting auditory nerve would stop tinnitus. Ridiculous and reckless proposition.
