Hello everyone,

Lately, I've noticed that certain positions seem to trigger my SBUTT episodes. For those who might not know, SBUTT stands for Sudden Brief Unilateral Tapering Tinnitus. It's that sensation of sudden deafness accompanied by a very loud ring, which fades away within seconds or minutes.

Whenever I lie down in certain positions—like on my side with my neck bent—I can feel my tinnitus cutting in and out until I experience a fleeting tinnitus episode. These episodes usually involve low or medium frequencies, similar to my baseline tinnitus. After these episodes, I often have lingering low-frequency tones that disappear within a few days. I'm not sure if it's related, but I also feel my breathing resonate in my ears following these episodes.

I started experiencing these episodes about two months ago. They don't stress me anymore, but I'm curious if anyone else has gone through something similar. If you have, do you have any theories as to why it happens? Have you managed to reduce the frequency of these episodes through physical exercises or other methods? Please share if you have!

Thank you,
Nes

Hi! Yes, I've experienced the same thing several times. It literally feels like I go deaf, and then the high-pitched ringing starts. Even though it goes away quickly, it still scares me. I'm not sure why it happens—I just can't quite wrap my head around it.

I often experience fleeting tinnitus episodes in my good ear, and they seem to be triggered by neck or arm movements. Can anyone explain why this happens and why it causes temporary deafness?
