Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic trauma (go-kart racing)
I am hapoy that school started because I love to study and learn new things and I have amazing friends that help me with everything. The only bad thing is that schools are TOO LOUD.

Today at my first class I was almost at the back of the room. About 7 meters away from the teacher. But still when he was talking it sounded too loud for my ears. I did not plug my ears because that would just look dumb. The hallways are also loud but not so loud that they hurt my ears only if some people scream.

At first the stupid noise tinnitus gave me bothered me the most. But only loud noises because I am scared that my tinnitus will get worse. I should go see a doctor but I would have to tell my mother about this thing :(. I am scared of telling her.

Why are you scared? Your mom loves you and will understand. You are not doing anything bad. be honest and just let her know. I'd love to go back to school, but my tinnitus is way too loud and i will have a hard time fully understanding the teacher and fully being active , in that type of a setting. I might go one day, but for right now, i'll pass

Enjoy your school and don't be so scared. Not all sound is harmful and bad for your ears. Your anxiety can rev up your tinnitus/spikes more than normal sounds...

Have you tried wearing noise reducing earplugs to school?

I'd rather look stupid as you say than have louder tinnitus or be in pain with hyperacusis. I go to university part time as part of my job and wear noise reducing plugs sometimes.

Well I will tell about my condition to my mom tomorrow and have a chat with my doctor on what should I do. I don't think I will start using earplugs at school.

See if Tinnitus spike when you go to school . May be it won't unless you go to sporting events or if there is any musical event .
do talk to your mom . I know it's embarrassing to wear plugs but if it's loud atleast may be wear skin color plugs .
I know it's easy for me to say and not sure if I had to guts to wear it in school .

Btw most of the guys who I cared about in school are no longer in my life . When you get older you will make new friends and if you have true friends they would understand your condition and won't look at you differently .

@Sean it correct. Tinnitus is not a choice, and therefore no decent person would hold your tinnitus against you. If they do, they were never real friends to begin with. I have, only very recently, begun to admit that I have this, and let people where I work know. All have been understanding and accommodating, and now understand why I ask them to repeat themselves as often as I do.

A cook threw the forks to the dishwashers in our school when I was walking there. I was about 2 meters away. How loud was this? Was it loud enough to do damage?

Buy earplugs or this will literally happen everyday. You can't avoid every noise.

It wasn't loud enough to cause any damage but stuff like this makes you anxious and paranoid...

Wear earplugs while you find it hard to control your reaction to loud noises, obviously I don't wear them when driving, in my office or at home but when going somewhere with the potential to be exposed to loud noises I do.

Just yesterday a ambulance drove 1m away from me with sirens on and 5 minutes later a car beeped it's horn. No emotional response as I knew I had earplugs in and that there's nothing more I could of done.

if I didn't have earplugs I'd be that anxious of damage id be searching for a course of prednisone

I like your message but it's all about protecting yourself and your ears. I could careless what people think, at the end of the day....It's our ears ringing and not theirs.

Life might have been a popularity contest, when younger. As older people with tinnitus, it's all about loving yourself, GOOD people and standing your ground :)

Are you seriously asking us how loud it is when forks are thrown into a dishwasher? Were any of us there? How do we know how many forks she threw in? Or the interior of the dishwasher? Is the school cook deaf? Think how many times a day and how many days over a school year she tosess silverware into the dishwasher. If one time could damage your ears, surely she's have hearing damage from frequently doing that.

Even without being there I can tell you that it was not loud enough to do any damage.

I agree . You gotta protect your ears without any concerns . if we don't protect now after knowing all the facts ..we will regret in future .

@Apocalypse77
Buy some earplugs and Wear them tomorrow. Atleast do it for the first few months, otherwise it's highly likely you'll be back here tomorrow with a similar post about how you've been exposed to a sudden loud noises and now you think your tinnitus is worse.

look at your post history, a simple device in your ears would of avoided most of them incidents, it's really that simple.

@Tinker Bell You are right. I am a dumb ****
You're not dumb, not at all. You're just anxious. You should hear the running dialog of ridiculous worries and thoughts that run through my head. If I stop and tell them to my spouse, I realize just how silly they are the moment they slip from my mouth. It's like getting them out of my head helps.

Have you tried CBT? My therapist encourages me to write down worries and then try to step back and look at them from a more rational perspective. It helps immensely.

I have not tried CBT, maybe I should, but now I am not in the mood. I have a terrible spike from the gym that I went in.
