Cause of Tinnitus
i wish i knew
Got my hearing tested by an audiologist today. Even tested in upper frequency range which I insisted, hell begged for. Didn't do it "by the book" but did something to test past 8k. Yup, I have excellent hearing. Heck I went to a loud bar last night and conversed well (mostly about my tinnitus and how much its killing me inside). Audiologist didn't know what to tell me about tinnitus except for avoid caffeine. Hmmm.

Can someone explain to me how the heck I have such good hearing and yet I have loud and never ending tinnitus? Any experts here?

I have DEMON level tinnitus and POOR hearing..wanna trade? Who knows, why your tinnitus is there and your hearing is excellent. Tinnitus can happen for a variety of reason. Majority of cases are from LOUD music/environments/ Illness.

I suggest that you protect your ears and keep your good hearing and not increase that tinnitus. Things can change with tinnitus and your hearing, be safe and protect your ears....

There is a chance that doing things like will interfere with your recovery.

This type of environment, only makes your tinnitus scream louder and be uglier or it can....I'd avoid loud bars and venues if i was you. If you go, then protect your ears...

It's been almost a year and i can assure you both it has not changed at all. Same annoying screaming from HELL. But it hasnt changed at all. No better but no worse thankfully !

Loud bars will spike the chit out of my tinnitus, for days or possibly a week or more. You may not lose your hearing, depending on the loudness and the amount of time you were there. The tinnitus does get affected by such a loud impact of noise. You are basically irritating your ears, by being there and that can trigger louder tinnitus.....

I think those of us who hear better than the rest are much more prone to getting tinnitus.

I am the same, I have a very sensitive ear. I can hear things which other people don't, even with the loud tinnitus I have now. Even those devices which are kind of a speaker that sends sound in high frequencies to scare bats away but are supposed not to be heard by humans; I can hear those.

Think about all the people you know that constantly expose themselves to insanely loud noises with no consequences at all. I think we were condemned from birth to have tinnitus with our "superior" hearing.

I envy you. Mine was like that for over 20 years. Then something changed. Although mine was pretty mild during that time and I was completely habituated to it.
