Hey everyone,

So I understand a somewhat permanent cure for tinnitus would take a while and lots of discipline.

I will look into that, however in the meantime does anyone have any tips on instant relief? Even if it's only for 30 seconds?

Thanks!

If you find it, let me know :)

Some people can get 5-10 seconds using residual inhibition. If you can match your tone frequency on the computer and play it back for yourself fairly loudly for 10 seconds, then when you stop you will have 5-10 seconds of silence. Works for me. Shower or washing dishes is also pretty good but if I really concentrate I can make myself hear my T over them.

So far the best thing is time. I'm at about 18 months now. Most days, if I am thinking of other things I can go hours without noticing my T. Overall I've gone from thinking about it 500+ times per day to an average of 10-20.

@rsilvers My only relief is being outdoors in nature…..listening to the wind, leaves swaying and birds chirping gives me a lot of relief from T. Waterfalls are another relief, but the closest one is an hour from where I live. If I could live on a beach right now by the ocean I would probably not hear my T…..however that is not likely to happen anytime soon.
I am not sure…..but I think when I sleep deeply my T turns off.

Usually when at the beach waves mask it well, but other times it cuts through. I am unable to tell if the difference is loudness or whether or not I'm paying more attention to it than usual. The best combination is waves at the beach, talking to people and a couple of rum punches! I've gone for 6 hours without noticing it like that. At night time we have tropical frogs, crickets and nighttime jungle sounds. They can work well too.

You could scream. You might not hear your T while you scream.

The problem is that if you begin screaming, you might not be able to stop. Another downside is that all of that screaming might spike your T (as I had learned the hard way).

when i first had it and couldn't find out why i asked the doc for anti anxiety pills just to calm my nerves. that clonozepam also worked to minimize the sound and even stopped mine for a bit but handle with care - there's lots of posts on here about other side effects. talk your doctor.

I'm only 2 weeks in and love going for rides in the car because I have to look for it to find it with the radio turned off, grocery shopping is a pleasure because there's enough noise in the background to block it, outdoors is good but it there's a wall of a house nearby or fence it will sneak up on me, I love long hot steamy showers because it calms my over the top anxiety about this and I can't hear the T.

This is going to be a long road....

I've got a cover of Don Henley's "Forgiveness" playing quietly on repeat for about an hour now. That helps too. :)
