Hallo

I need your help: I have slammed/banged my ear against my pillow hard. I returned to bed and with my head to the side I slammed it into the pillow. It was my good ear which is even worse.

I worried immediately. Now I hear a high tone in the affected ear, it feels a bit sore/stuffed. Hearing is not muffled but my regular tinnitus is crazy loud.

Should I go to the ER?

What damage could I have done? Could the sound probably be gunshot loud? Could I have caused harmful pressure like a slap to the ear? Is this possible or am I paranoid?

I'm so scared

Is it ok to wait a bit or do I risk something bynot going to a doctor immediately? I am literally shaking

It happened an hour ago.

I realize your nervous but unless you have pain or are bleeding then calm down first.
Do some deep slow breathing.
Then go if you wish to wait for a Dr. To check inside your ear.

Talked to my brother, he thinks I am overreacting and that ER would be even more stress.

There was and is no pain just the loud sounds.

I dont know what to do

I try to stay calm now.

I phoned two friends. They also think I am crazy. But they are 'normal' with no T or no ear problems.

What to do? Can I wait a bit longer or do I need treatment and what do I risk by waiting?

If I understand correctly the problem will be either perforated eardrum through pressure or inner ear damage?

How hard is that pillow you speak of? All pillows I'm used to are fairly soft and will absorb "the blow" nicely.
I personally wouldn't worry about it too much.

Its a goose feather pillow. More precisely two of them on top of each other to elevate the head. I had to get up to close windows and on returning to bed a bit quickly in a hurry to go back I 'threw' my head with the ear flat forward against the flat pillow.

I forgot to say thank you!!!!!!!! because I am going mad here (but try to stay calm).

I just dont know if this is a case of overthinking and paranoia or real danger for physical damage

@Tayne What are your multiple causes of tinnitus? For anyone with neck and jaw issues only one pillow should be used under head, but a small pillow should also be used under neck.

Thank you all! I was waiting for reassurance from people who understand T.

But sadly I only feel relieved abit now I think because this means that I have induced the spiking myself. My brotheryelled at me while I was so upset and called me nuts because I thought I need a doctor asap.

But Im not crazy, the sound is louder and I faintly hear a new sound. My ears are in crazy mode compared to yesterday. So Icaused this for nothing?

I kept to myself the day without loud sounds to manage this increase but it gets worse I feel.

I would stop worrying as much. Put on Netflix or do something that you really enjoy. Stress is known to elevate T levels.

Just a follow up on this thread. Sometimes after side sleeping on one side during the night I wake up with muffled hearing on that ear. My pillow is not hard but not soft somewhere in between. Could this be dangerous in any sense for your ear? I don't do any drastic movements or such. Just laying carefully on the sides. Could a freakin pillow affect your inner ear?

Also. Believe I'm suffering from ETD, will have a specialist looking at it in next week. Perhaps ETD that's is affected by the side sleeping, which contributes to muffled hearing?

Buy a more comfortable pillow. Before I got t, I would on occasion, move in my sleep and accidentally put too much pressure on my ear. My ear hurt afterwards but hearing was okay. The ear pain eventually subsided and then was gone.

I would look at how you are sleeping. Could you ask family members to check in on you after you are asleep to check your position? It's just an idea and theory. I don't know if there is any issue there but maybe worth looking into?

The thing is I don't have pain when I wake up and it doesn't hurt when I sleep. It doesn't feel uncomfortable. Only a bit muffled hearing. Have used my pillow for a long time and never had these problems before. It's just now when I've other ear issues with ETD that this problem is occurring
