Should Tinnitus Sufferers Worry About Paracetamol/Ibuprofen/Codeine?

Hi, I got severe foot pain last week so I took 200 mg of Ibuprofen once a day for 3 days and the first 2 days my T was okay then on the 3rd which was 2 days ago my T just turned very high, I know it's the Ibuprofen. Anyone here had T spike due to Ibuprofen? Did it go down for some of you? How many days? Thanks

I don't have drug induced t but I have heard of it dying down for people so just give it some time.

Ibuprofen increases my T as well but it always goes down after a few days. I need to take it for headaches once in a while since tylonol doesn't make a dent in them, unfortunately.

I was taking Ibuprofen for headaches several times a week when I was a caffeine addict. I weaned my way off of caffeine so my headaches would go away (they did) and so I could stop taking Ibuprofen for those headaches.

After months of being caffeine free and mostly Ibuprofen free, I saw no change in my Tinnitus. I've seen them listed as triggers but that doesn't seem to be the case for me.

Funny I just took motrin this morning and tylonol this evening for a headache that won't go away and now my T is very loud too. I always fear it won't settle down but it normally does. I find that my T and H are much louder when I have headaches for some reason I've yet to understand! I do have a cold as well right now, which has made my T louder too...first one since T...I knew it was unavoidable! Keep busy and try not to focus on it so much...I know this isn't easy but it's the best thing to do. My T is the loudest at night when I'm relaxing in bed.

Hey guys, I'm having the same problem after taking 2 advil (400mg ibuprofen) 3 days ago. Crazy spike that's still going strong. Good to hear it went back down for you guys, let's hope the same works out for me..

You'll be fine..give it some time..

@mmacabre Hi, how's your spike? I got a reprieve on day 6..but mine is still high...it's been 8 days now. I had this same spike last year...it took a little over a month before it went down or I got used to it.

@Petloy
Currently I am still suffering a spike at day 6 which includes a low hum in my right ear (bit in my left as well) that had been barely noticeable becoming much louder to the point of me not being able to sleep on that ear...which is a problem because I can't sleep on my left ear because of the morse code tone that became worse, along with the main loud high-pitched T... Ah. Very frustrating.

I did read an article once that stated that products containing ibuprofen can possibly cause an existing T condition to temporarily worsen. Advil does in fact contain ibuprofen. However, I have used it for years and have never experienced any change in my T condition.

If you've never taken it before then I would suggest you only take one the first time and never exceed the recommended adult dosage of two at a time.

I've said this before so sorry to repeat, but I sincerely believe this is relevant to any drug that has what I call a "hearing signature" (anything that messes with hearing/auditory system...not just 'tinnitus' as a listed side-effect).

If taking Ibuprofen/NSAID's or other potentially ototoxic drugs (like most of the ...'cin ending antibiotics - aminoglycosides, etc.) stay out of loud sound environments and/or protect fully until plasma clearing is complete!

I have personal experience of this 'drug -sound combo' causing lasting tinnitus volume increase. Plus causing new tinnitus in a few friends - construction workers banging nails all day while taking Ibuprofen. Ex wife - playing marimba in a band while taking Ibuprofen; etc.
I'm convinced it is also a factor in the high rates of tinnitus in combat military personnel, as eating pain-killers like Ibuprofen is almost du jour for the conditions they are under!

So, Ibuprofen is likely to be fine even with tinnitus (I use it occasionally with no increase in volume), but Ibuprofen PLUS loud sound = danger! My doc is tending to agree with me too now that I brought it to his attention.

Better to play it safe. If need the pills, keep it quiet.

Best, Zimichael

I was perscribed 600 mg inprophen to take every 4 hours for bad pain.. Thats alot and i was scared but i didnt care at the point cause of the pain.. And T had no increase whatsoever. Top of that i took a few oxycodine to help with pain and no increases in T.

My T is due to LUVOX (SSRI) taken in 2007 and my increase is due to Clarithromycin (antibiotics) taken in 2014. So I know I need to be careful with ototoxic medication.

I have taken ibuprofen several times in the past for migraines and headaches and it never increased my T.

My luck is so bad, that i am alergic to every antibiotic that ends with cillin.. Which ofcorse ideal for people with T. I will runnn from mycin if i ever need it!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, the answer to this is generally no as long as you take these drugs sparingly. Consistent doses or high levels of the drugs may aggravate existing tinnitus.

Hey hudson, do you think at some point in my life i needed an antibiotic and since im alergic to the cillins, that the mycins would cause a permanent increase for my T or just temporary or would it depend how
Long i was on it. Also are there Any other antibitoics other then cillins that arent otoxic?
