I had my first cold since onset last year just a few weeks ago. Having a spike during cold (and after) is normal since the sinus affects your ears and sort of block the ear. If you have been sick when you where younger, you may remember that it felt like your hearing was worse like you had something blocking the sounds. Now that you have T, the ringing will seem louder, like they do with ear plugs since it locks the sound "inside your head". Don't panic, it will make it feels worse. Just let the cold play out and if you have not felt any improvement a week or two after you have become completely symptom free from the cold, you can check with your GP to see if there are any sinus still lingering. Ears are the last part to get recovered from a cold so give it a bit time. To answer your question, I have not gotten a worse T and majority of the people here have not had it worsen either.
