Slap-Induced Tinnitus

That would depend on what you're giving up surely?
It also depends on the effect that T has on you. If you can just ignore it, then of course it makes sense to not take T into account. If, like me, you think that there are few things in this world worth risking a lifetime of louder T for, then you will not care about the benefit foregone.

@Steve G Hi Steve: I have somatic electrical noise with a pulse. Sometimes it will be focused on my left side around the temple. Many with somatic tinnitus will have symptomatic tension signals from toughened muscles in the innervation area of the sensory trigeminal nerve related to the acoustic pathways. Diverse degrees of hearing loss is often found.

Those with somatic tinnitus will have one or more of the following. 1. History or onset of head and neck trauma. 2. Manipulation of the teeth, nerves in mouth, jaw and/or cervical spine. 3. Temporal coincidence. 4. Inadequate posture during rest. 5. Downward pressure of head.

Some treatments could include correcting posture, controlling downward head pressure and stretching of neck and head upwards. Light gentle facial, shoulder and neck muscle therapy. See post 20 - above.

Hi, I have been checking out these forums almost daily for nearly two years now. This is my story.

I got slapped on the ear, this happened to me almost me almost two years ago now and unfortunately I still have it as well as slight hyperacusis which is an intolerance to loud noise.

I was laying in bed when I did something that annoyed my wife unknowing to her I was laying with my head on my side she went to give me a slap and it ended up completely sealing my left ear. It was like a tsunami of sound waves entering my ear going deeper and deeper, when she pulled her hand off my ear which was very quick, the most horrible noise you could imagine raged from my ear.

My first words were what did you do that for you have just destroyed my life.

The sound was so bad I knew this was not going to go away anytime soon.

So here I am almost two years later so many doctors and specialist appointments, so many tears I have cried.

The trouble with tinnitus, well in my case what started in the ear progressed to my brain.

I have had to cut out so many foods due to the salt intake that I have now a very bland diet.

My life goes on, I am still working, I go on holidays and try my best to enjoy life.

I am still with my wife as we have five grown up children and four grandchildren. I know she is sorry for what she has done and she tries to support me the best she can.

Like myself before I had tinnitus, I never knew really what it was. I remember going for work medicals and them asking if you have ringing in your ears, what's that?

We can all relate to a stomach ache or a headache toothache etc , etc, but the general population can not relate to tinnitus. Hence we have no real relief available.

I took 2.5 ml Valium each night for about six months to help me relax and sleep, I found a YouTube sound therapy noise that is fantastic for me, it has like white noise with high pitched beeps. I play this sound and my tinnitus almost goes away. I am now listening to an external sound that almost sounds like my tinnitus, amazingly it cuts it out.

I always play this sound therapy at night going to sleep or during the day when it is bad. I still take 2.5 mg Valium if I am stressed to try and settle things down.

I try to remember to drink plenty of water, and get as much sleep as I can as this is what helps me cope during the day.

I really hope we can all find some relief from this horrible condition in the near future.

Best wishes to everyone.

Hi Fernando, So sorry to read you got slapped. I am not sure if I am getting used to it or it has improved. My lybic system seems to accept it so I do not panic anymore. I sleep ok with no medications however my life will never be the same. The electrical noise and puffy feeling in my left ear are still there, the somatic input if I rub my jaw is still there, the noise sensitivity is still there, this condition is awful. Not many fully understand severe tinnitus and the related symptoms and changes in life we have to make. I get a bit tired of all the people who say they have tinnitus but when pressed in regards to their symptoms I know they have not suffered like many of us on this forum. Lucky them. Happy new year, and may we all find some peace in the new year. Chéers Steve

Hey man, I know the exact thing you're talking about with the head buzz/ electrical zaps. A few of the members here also have the same things. Mine was super-shit at the start and became more intermittent as time went on. I still have it and am looking for ways to alleviate it. I can eat ear tinnitus for breakfast.
@PDodge, did your electrical zaps ever get better? And if so, how much and did you do anything to fix it?

I am experiencing the zaps and high pitch hissing that moves around from ear to ear, sometimes mild and sometimes aggressive. This started about 2 weeks ago. At the moment, the most annoying thing about it is the "zaps." Sometimes they're mild and sometimes violent where it feels like being electroshocked. Stops you dead in your tracks. The sound of it is like car breaks squealing and it intermixes with the hissing. And the length of each zap is about 1 or 2 seconds. It's intrusive though because you never know when it'll strike and can't ignore it because it shocks your head.
