Hello Tinnitus Talk,

I developed tinnitus back in April of 2018 and I must say that I feel like my tinnitus is getting better. Better to the point where I sleep in absolute silence. I feel that my tinnitus gets a lot softer through the night and I sleep without any disturbances.

Would you guys consider being able to sleep with my tinnitus a mild form? I just sleep with my ceiling fan on.

I've always slept in silence. Even during the early days. I can't stand relaxation songs, white noise, pink noise, noise machines, fans, anything at all. My tinnitus would put me to sleep (y) and then wake me up in the middle of the night (n)

Nowadays, I don't give a crap. I just sleep. Probably, the tinnitus wasn't waking me up in the first place, it was more of a reaction to the anxiety of the first months.

So, I'd say it's not either a good or a bad sign. Maybe someday it'll bother you more trying to sleep, some other day it will not matter that much.

It is good that your tinnitus has reduced but it is not a good idea to sleep in complete silence. Better to use a "sound machine by your bedside played at low volume. Since your tinnitus was caused by noise, I advise you not to use headphones even at low volume. Please click on the links below and you will find more information on the reasons not to sleep in silence and information on tinnitus.

I would say it's a good sign if you sleep in silence. I have Tinnitus since 2006, with long episodes where was so quiet it was basically gone. I had new onsets of T/worsenings in 2011, 2016 and 2018. I always had the impression my ears need to rest at night. I couldn't stand any noise at night. After initial onset and the first time of panic/ depression silence at night always helped me with regenerating my ears.
If it feels good for you do it! Sound enrichment is crucial to some, for me it aggravates my Tinnitus and my ears feel stressed after sleeping in sound.

yes, I would call it mild. That's how mine is. Be thankful that it's not worse. I'm not so sure that is any sign that you/we will recover though. We've jacked our ears up and we have to accept it until some cure comes if it ever does.
