Sleeping Positions Affect My Tinnitus

@Sayeed, have you looked into upper cervical chiropractors?

After you posted here I noticed that we shared a lot of the same symptoms and to me it does sound like early Meniere's.

I have narrowed my tinnitus down to my neck, I believe I have a pinched nerve. This is what a lot of people with Meniere's have too.

Luckily, upper cervical chiropractors are having a lot of luck treating Meniere's, but I think it's important to get in early if you can.

Problems with the upper neck can create ear problems, migraines, vision issues and nerve problems like you said.

I've only had a few treatments and my tinnitus has not changed at the moment, though I am noticing some changes with my ear and neck. I will keep you posted.
Thank you for the feedback. I have not looked into a chiropractor because of my fear they could make it worse but based on your feedback I will consider it now. It's interesting my tinnitus does change depending on how I sleep/position my neck. I have a new symptom where my hands fall sleep depending on my sleep position

Please do keep us posted on your sessions go.

Let us know how it goes! Remember it can take a little while to see results.
Had my first adjustment and to be honest, it is hard to believe this will do anything. All they do is touch you very, very softly, you don't even feel it.

I will go three more times and let's hope for the best. For sure it is nothing of what I was expecting.

Tagging @Wrfortiscue.

And that's NUCCA, @NYCGuy?

The company that took over it in London use a much more forceful method. I definitely felt the quick push which then followed 15 minutes of vertigo.

My appt the other day changed my tinnitus. I felt my bone move in my neck and the chiropractor commented that it was the biggest adjustment we've seen yet (it was my 4th). Since then my tinnitus has completely changed and the pressure in my ear is going down.

I think perhaps give it a little more time.

Seems the NUCCA I did is not the same. This guy only touched me on the side of the head. I thought this was going to be something totally different and really surprised me.

So far nothing has changed for me.

I will go a few more times and then move on to physical therapy and maybe another type of Chiropractor.

Hi everyone, thought I'd give you an update. I'm happy to report that I've had a much better week. Following the positive treatment I had a few weeks ago that improved my symptoms, they crept back up again in the following days which was a shame.

I spoke the the chiropractor and he said that's quite normal as my body is used to the misalignment, so is trying to fight the new position he's putting my C1 in.

I used advice from the chiro to rest as much as possible, especially in the few days following my appointment. I also read that stretching the neck can help to loosen the muscles and hold the new alignment.

So I meditated for 30 minutes in the days following my appointment (including straight after) and did some specific neck stretches each day and my tinnitus has been better for a whole week! I have also been less stressed. So in the days following your appointment, I would advise you to minimise stress as much as possible.

I'd say it's gone from a 10 to a 7 and the noise itself has become much softer. More like a high pitched static rather than a squeal. The pressure in my ear has also been changing.

Still a way to go but it's not been very long and I'm pleased that things are starting to change.

Good luck everyone! Will keep you updated.

Hello,

An update for everyone. For the last few treatments I had with the chiropractor, my jaw became very irritable and with it I had horrendous tinnitus spikes which lasted days up to a week. I realised that once my jaw calmed down, so did my tinnitus.

So I have started seeing a TMJ specialist and we think we have gotten to the root of the problem. She thinks (and I agree) that it seems to be related to my sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM).

When I sleep with my bad side in the air, I seem to be stretching that muscle slightly and therefore it releases a bit of tension in my sleep. In all other positions it hold tension and the pressure in my ear gets worse as the days go on, followed by vertigo, dizziness and nausea. I also found that the Amitriptyline tablets that I take for migraines has made a huge difference because it works as a form of muscle relaxant. My symptoms would have been much more extreme all along had I not have taken these.

My TMJ physio is working to treat my jaw and neck with laser therapy, dry needling and mobilisation. I also have lots of stretches to do at home.

I'm only a week in so I will keep you posted. Thanks!

Hey guys, another update from me. The TMJ physio just made things worse, but I realised something muscular was going on.

I went to a prolozone centre (a different form of prolothery) and the lovely doctor just confirmed that my C1 atlas is still very misaligned dispite about 3 months with my chiropractor. It seems that the adjustments just aren't realigning the bones properly, not like they did on that one miracle adjustment I had.

He has recommended that I go to an atlas orthogonal upper cervical chiropractor as the adjustment done is much more accurate to my misalignment, because it uses a machine. Once and only once the spine is realigned are we going to look into repairing my muscles.

Let's just hope we can get this bugger back into place!

Hey @RachLouise, this is a long shot since I see this thread has gone dormant, but I was wondering whether you were successful at getting your C1 atlas aligned.
