My T is rapidly getting worse. My neck and shoulder muscles are constantly uptight and sore. Nothing I do seems to help, or is short lived in its effectiveness.

I'm becoming seriously depressed. I wake up in the morning feeling like shit. Having constant noise is one thing, but I'm getting bloody scared what damage is being done with this chronic muscle tension.

I do have one one question though. I know muscle tension can give you T or make it worse and I know that hearing loss can over stimulate the cranial nerves.

But can hearing loss/ damage to auditory fibres over stimulate the somatic nerves? Can this result in chronic muscle tension?

Have you looked into TMJ?

I don't think it's TMJD. I mean I can open my jaw wide with no pain but plenty of stiffness in my jaw. I do have plenty of sore/tenderness around the jaw joint. I don't grind my teeth but I reckon I may be clenching. Getting to see a specialist in the NHS is hopeless.

@truesilence have you tried physical therapy? I had very tense muscles throughout my upper back and neck and it helped me a lot.

Yes, a physical therapist can also offer suggestions regarding postural assessment/control, modifications to your environment (proper seating and desk positioning, sleeping, etc.), and exercises not just for the neck/shoulders, but also for overall proper body mechanics, which can go a long way toward overall improvement.

Ask around among friends and trusted acquaintances for a good physical therapist and maybe try that.

Trigger point injections into the neck and back can help with tension. So can dry needling done by a trained physical therapist (it's not the most pleasant experience though). Massage works for some people too.

Speaking directly from experience yes!I began getting what I thought was muscle tension but to make a really long story short my somatic nerves were directly responsible for it and nothing else.Sound still causes me neck pain and tension symptoms.

I'm looking into this. I do have lots of painful trigger points along my spine and shoulder! Cold laser therapy is an option also. Thank you.

Ha! If this is the case, what can I do? Will this be a permanent condition? No ENT or Neurologist ever mentioned this!

I think I have similar issues. It started would loud T and headaches. I did everything but no relief. Steroids helped, but only temporary fix. It always came back. My neck muscles were killing me. I tried Lipoflavnoids and my T decreased greatly. My last ENT visit he touched a spot on the back of my head that hurt. I believe this is part of the
sternocleidomastoid muslce. Anyway, I am headed off the Neurologist to have CT scans, etc. They think I pulled this muscle or pinched nerve. I'm still waiting to hear from Neurologist. Mornings are the Worst. My neck is a mess. It hurts right below my ears all the way to the back of my neck. Bad headaches and back of head hurts too. Numbness in my arms too.

I have this as well.I have been told I have tmj.but the splint seems like it made jaw worse.I have been to physical therapy 5 different times and it's a little better but my neck and base of skull ,back of head on right side aches all the time and is sensitive. now my throat on right side right below ear is tender.I also have sore spots on back of head.pain management was going to give me a branch block but I'm to scared. My right ear is even sore way deep down inside of it when I swallow it feels sore in ear ..strange..I been doing stretches from physical therapy ,chin tucks every day latley and seems like tinnitus has gotten louder.so I stopped those I'm thinking opptical nerves lay in back of head and neck are inflamed or irritated... Docs say it's my Ddd in neck though.but I don't think it is....

Ha! I have most of your symptoms as well! I'm starting to get electrical zaps down my left arm. Mornings are vile, like I haven't sleep at all. Brain fog and morning headaches. I went to see a PT and he found lots of tigger points which were very painful. I reckon you should try getting a sports massage and get them to work on your trigger points cos those little bastards are probably causing you all your pain. These will probably need to be done again and again. I've just invested in a Tempur pillow to give my head and neck proper support whilst sleeping. Wasn't sure at first, but already started to feel a little better in the mornings! I've also started swimming which really helps de stress and release tension. Lastly, I would look into cold laser therapy.

Jeannie, have you looked into Trigger point massage and cold laser Therapy? I reckon it's worth a go! :)

I noticed spending time in the hot tub, spa, and bath have helped. I need to try the swimming as well. Right now, I have been sleeping with a rolled up towel under my neck. I have noticed the T being quieter in the mornings after that. However, getting comfortable in bed laying my head down is nearly impossible.

I tried the rolled up towel as well. Made my neck and head numb. A good quality pillow is absolutely essential. You won't get a proper night sleep unless your spine/neck is properly aligned especially with muscle tension. Sleep on back with a pillow under knees or on side with pillow between legs. Do not sleep on your front.
