Some People Just Do Not Think!

I love my family, really I do, but they make me so frustrated sometimes.

My aunt has just rocked up to my house with a gift for my almost 5 year old.

Headphones for her ipad.

Yes, they may be volume limiting, but considering what's going on with my ears anything that goes over or in ears (unless it's earplugs) is pretty much banned in our house.

Plus she has 2 x perforated eardrums which are permanent until she has surgery to have them patched when she is older.

And yet, I'm looked at like the overprotective parent and now my daughter is having a tantrum because she can't have them

For your problem: You could always limit the volume on the ipad so that your daughter can't turn up the volume. I don't think that little use of headphones is bad as long as you are keeping the volume down and it's not the whole day. maybe see it as a chance to teach your daughter how to be responsible with volume little by little ( she's still very young) so that when she get older and definitely will use headphones she won't turn up the volume up to extremes like many young people do and be cautious with her hearing.

Lol, yeah ... We aren't the type of parents who would usually allow it, but my nan is unwell and as she won't be around next Xmas she wanted to spoil her this year.
It's amazing how well she is doing with her writing and letter and number recognition since getting it tho! And we do limit her time on it.

I just don't want her to pick up bad habits with headphones/earbuds

Yes I understand where you are coming from. But at least at home with you she can learn the use of headphones in a save environment - you can teach her to be responsible!
Also we with tinnitus must be a little bit cautious with projecting our fears with tinnitus on the beloved around us

May be this is due to deficiency of:
1. Vit B12
2. Vit D
3. Serum Iron
Carry our appropriate tests to evaluate the above. in my case all these parameters were low, particularly Iron was low, i started taking iron suppliments advised by the doctor, i am feeling much better now. if it works for u please share with as many sufferers as possible and to me also.
also check if u have any allergy, and treat it.

You're doing the right thing though. Children cannot monitor the correct volume level. It's probably best to get them into a mindset of not to use headphones unless absolutely necessary also.

Very responsible! I would be the same exact way with my future kids.. Teach them while there young and they will thank you later!
