My T is horrendous, I also have bad H. I don't have good days, or low days normally. Although I ate some spicy, very spicy soup last night and this morning my T is lower and my H less bothersome....Nothing to celebrate, but easily 10-15 percent better for the first time. Even the tones seem to be less intrusive and high pitched.

Is this coincidence? I can't link it to anything else.

Anyone else experience this?

From what I've read in general, and what I've read from others, spicy food, if anything, tends to increase tinnitus. Although, for me, food doesn't seem to make a difference one way or another.

If I were you, I'd try it again. If every time you eat spicy food it gets better, then it could very well be that it helps you for some reason. I wouldn't be that surprised either, as everyone's T seems to be different. Even if you said it's nothing too great, I'm glad there is at least something that gave you some relief, even if modestly.

Yeah, this is what I thought as well. I have kind of, if anything been avoiding spicy food. I wonder if maybe my sinuses and ears are blocked up and this cleared something. I will give it another shot, see what happens. Even my white noise generator seemed louder and clearer, when normally I barely can her it because of my T.

No Tellis, but that's great for you, what kind of soup, I'd be willing to try!

It was beef satay Vietnamese soup...super hot. I was sweating and blowing my nose the entire time. Also, immediately after...my ears felt more clear.

Maybe it was some kind of chemical release as well? I don't know, so weird.

Oh, I thought it might be store bought, my luck it wouldn't be available out here in the east.

There should be lots of Vietnamese pho or Vietnamese restaurants all across Canada. Just google with that and you will be surprised. Just go there and tell them you want the spiciest noodle soup. Check this out by specifying Vietnamese:

I don't know if spicy foods can help with T. I like spicy foods myself. Heehee. Perhaps they cause the blood circulation to be faster and therefore can affect T.

Have you had your ears and sinuses checked, when my ears get blocked which is next to always I get bad Tinnitus, I remember having a ringing in my ears all the time when I got a cold before the event that got me T.
Try an inhaling treatment it's basically you put some herb I can't remember what it is into a pot of boiling water, towel over your head and just relax and inhale, might clear up your sinuses and ears and make your T better.
Best of luck :)

This is just a blind guess but maybe spices in your food are decreasing the inflammation in your head or ears or something of the sort ? I know for sure that turmeric/ curcumin spice is anti inflammatory and some people may possibly see some improvement in their T after taking it in suppliment form.

I find spicy food is great when I have a cold, cleans out in my head and what ails me, in two days I feel I have it beat, so likely the same for you Tellis, what ever works. I'll try anything as long as its safe and proven, if it doesn't make my T worse, hey another menu item, I like to try different cultural food - long as I know whats in it.

@ billie48, ah that's why I haven't heard of any Vietnamese restaurants, they are mostly around Moncton and Saint John, thanks for the link if I am in the area. BTW what function do you use to pull down a quote as a header in your message?

I think it is the signature message in the profile.

Telis, is it possible that your ear problems are caused by congestion and inflammation? Have you had the chance to see an ENT about this?

Yeah I did...she told me I have tinnitus and nerve damage...10 min appointment max. She did look in my ears though, said they looked fine.

My T is just as bad now, short lived but my ears don't feel as full and blocked up. My right ear is also not twitching like it normally does...secondary symptoms compared to my T, but still good I guess. And my H still feels a bit better.

Telis, that is good news and as time goes by there should be more improvement. Now just need to deal with the emotional side of things to improve the general quality of life. All the best to you.

My somatic T *completely* disappeared the other night after eating a very hot curry, consuming a fair amount of beer and chatting to friends. It came back the next morning though. It had never disappeared like that before.

Yesterday was a record low day for my tinnitus. Noise was reduced at least 50% or even more. This was remarkable as I do not have a lot of variation in my tinnitus anymore. In the day before yesterday I have had a very spicy food in the evening, which I consume almost never. Maybe there is something to spicy foods but given that no one has found repeated success I am not getting my hopes up.

Did it contain Turmeric?

Turmeric is a TNF-a inhibitor (which drives neuroinflammation).

That's because the nose is connected to the ear too… so if your nose unblocks you hear better.
