Ok so I was at school and this boy popped a juicebox carton in the lunch hall, it was fairly close and very loud. I had cotton balls in my ears beforehand but it caused my tinnitus to spike. It's now like a piano or violin sound.

Did this cause any damage?
Also what action should I take now?

Just ride it out man....it will calm down...just give it time...prob will be better by the end of the day..promise you will be ok

NAC, magnesium and/or corticosteroids are the only options if you feel there might be permanent damage.
But there is no way of knowing if there is permanent damage.
What a wonderful condition this tinnitus...

Punch the kid in the face and your satisfaction will lower your T spike.;)
If you don't knock him out and he asks you why you hit him, tell him you don't like loud noises. :)
Since he wanted some attention, you gave him some. He won't do that again. Old school.:D

Understand. Was joking...
I am not a violent guy unless unusual measures are called for. ;)
Good luck in your last year of school.

Well, one man's juicebox explosion leads to another man's unusual measure if the circumstances ...oh...wait..

Seriously though, Karam, random noises will continue to be everywhere and the world will not quiet down just for us. You should try to face each day knowing and accepting this and get a floor under your fear. The early months are the hardest times because experience is the only real, useful knowledge any of us gain, and you don't have much of that yet. Please don't be too hard on yourself, or those around you who really, truly don't and can't understand. Time is likely still on your side. This is bad but everyone's experience and journey is different and we are all here when it gets all too much.

Hey @Karam, a juice box pop definitely is not loud enough to cause permanent damage. As @PaulBe said, we all are a lot more anxious when our tinnitus begins and even average sounds can make us fearful. It will be OK.

One thing, though: You mentioned you had cotton balls in your ears? Were you trying to block out noise? If so, be very careful. Closing your ears off to all normal sound can lead to what's called hyperacusis, or extreme sound sensitivity. You certainly want to protect your ears in loud, noisy situations -- but not all the time in normal situations.

@LadyDi hi the juicebox pop was really loud like an explosion lol but its probably the anxiety towards it thats worse, because i panicked when it happened.

Yeah, @Karam, I went through the exact same thing. A lot of us here have. It really sucks: even a normal noise seems incredibly loud and can send you into a panic. Just try to remind yourself that you are thinking catastrophically, that everything will be OK and this is not going to hurt you. It can help.

But honest, it's more of a matter of time. You'll find eventually, these things won't bother you any more. And hopefully your T will fade. You're not that far in yet.

@LadyDi thanks yes ive mostly habituated to the first tinnitus but the new tones are the worst, hoping they fade or maybe completely go away, hopefully your holding up ok

That's really nice that you asked, @Karam. Ya know, I have my bad days and my spikes, even after more than three years with constant tinnitus. But it doesn't run my life. I pretty much do everything I did before (although in some cases, like going to a movie, I do it with ear plugs!) And it has made me more grateful for my family and friends, and the fact that I don't have a disease or disorder that completely cripples me.

You seem to have a great attitude, that will get you far. Hugs and best wishes, Karam.

This happaned again and im terrified. A LOUD juice box just popped next to me like 1-2 meteres with only 1 ear protected. Any ideas how loud these are when popped. It sounded like a fire cracker. It was really loud, im starting to become depressed. Support needed.

I wouldn't worry too much, you can't escape all sound and accidents like this will happen eventually... The only way to prevent it is staying in your room 24/7, but I don't think that's the best option :)

Most likely it will settle down again..
