Cause of Tinnitus
Loud noise exposure
I was just wondering whether or not my blocked sinuses can be causing an increase in my T levels? I don't know much about Tinnitus but this spike has lasted a few days and before the cold came along I was managing my T well. I was just wondering whether or not it's likely my T will return to a comfortable level and if anyone else has experienced an increase in the volume of T due to blocked sinuses?

My T blew up 13 weeks ago after an upper respiratory sinus infection for two to three weeks due to allergies related to tree pollen. I'm looking to get a CT sinus scan, ASAP. If the sinus' are even mildly inflamed post infection, I believe it can stay that way for months especially if inhalant allergies remain a factor. Plus those who have any degree of T have increased sounds. Every ENT should have a mini CT head scanner in their office! Otherwise going to the ENT for an external visual inspection is an incomplete evaluation of possible causes. Early on I did 7 days of antibiotics and 10 days of prednisone and it was not long enough to penetrate the sinus'. Many Doctors seem to refuse the idea that sinus' can cause T "symptoms". I had a very similar experience that lasted 6 weeks in 2012 and after 10 days of the same antibiotics, the buzzing resolved. Before I take another round of antibiotics, I want to see scans.

When I developed tinnitus I also got what I thought was Sinisitis at the same time, but my dr thought it was Perenial rhinitis, after several hospital visits, plus scan and prick test,it was found it was rhinitis as dr said,so my dr was right with my symptoms.I think a scanner in a Drs surgery would be an asset,as so many are coming down with allergies, that would also be an asset to Asthma patients with tinnitus,my husband got asthma and tinnitus around the same time.My belief is they are all linked up together, lots with these probs get severe ear infections continually.
I've tried antihistamines, nasal sprays to no avail.Dont think an antibiotic would be of any use either,my tinnitus has been the pits now over past 3 months, believe weather doing it.so yes allergies and tinnitus working together for some but not for all, hence why some have tinnitus worse than others, and why we complain about it more on a daily basis, and find it lot harder to habituate.

When I first had my T ...it was realy hard. Than 2 months later I got blocked sinuses and it scard the sh%$ out of me. I used Nasonex and it went away real fast.

ENT's will tell you its all connected but will tell you severe sinus allergies/infections/inflammation and T is not related. :meh: It's difficult for antibiotics or any OTC meds to penetrate the sinus'. It's also difficult for nasal sprays to reach deep areas of the sinus especially if it's covered in a current or residual sinus allergic reaction or infection. Plus also the body can become non-responsive to an antibiotic if it's been taken a lot. IMO this is why so many struggle with Rx and OTC meds..

That's the thing with me, i've only had T for about 6 weeks and i'd say I was starting to get used to it and didn't notice it unless I plugged my ears and even then it was barely noticeable tben all of a sudden I developed a cold and my T went off the roof and it scared me a little as I wasn't used to it so I think i'll get some Nasonex myself and hope the T goes back down to the levels I was used to

My husband with tinnitus/ asthma doesn't present the problems I do,as he's said today, were all different regards to allergies and tinnitus,he's said be of interest to hear from some one with all 3 conditions going together. Will look up Nasonex,as I'm on BP med i can't take certain things . Since all this began even foods stuffs have become a nightmare, things I could eat has now become a problem, any of this relates since having both ?Tomatoes, nuts etc off the menu,so my food choices are now limited.

Hey Luke your logo? Okay if I put up a Palace one,my old man reckons new logo colour will go from red to orange.
You watching the Argie match, due to start. I'm into my tennis.,leave you chaps to your football.
Go have a try to the Nasonex, see if that helps, there is one called Nu Rinse, hospital gave me some ended up giving 4 boxes of it to my cousin who's got allergies minus the tinnitus.

Keep flicking the channel over to see how Rafa is getting on as i'm into Tennis myself as well as football of course watching Sport is the only thing that takes my mind off the Tinnitus at times.. I think Djokovic is out for revenge this year as he's looked on form but I wouldn't mind a Murray or Federer win

Ive had mild asthma my whole life. Im tested to be very to mildly allergic to certain tree pollens, molds and weeds. I have no doubt the perfect storm of allergies turned sinus infection, stress, poor sleep and exhausted immune system increased my T volume.
Nasacort seems to help me.

Hi Jay,yes me to with immune system took a nose dive when I got a virus, set all this off in me. Only thing is it's never upset my sleeping, but why does it others ?my dad ,sister had asthma since they were tots,I only and still have is eczema.but was never a problem, now it's a permanent sore tongue and tingly lips, sore throat, facial head pain and the tinny( what I call it )
Sorry you have asthma, nasty condition on it's own.don't know how you cope, must be a struggle,my husband needs steroids when it's severe, again it's weather that affects him, will ask him if when asthma bad ,how his tinnitus is those days.Im sat here 8pm but my ears are low and head is tight. Weird and uncomfortable, pollen count high here today,so.been in all day.think we should wear mouth masks like the Japanese do,before I go does anyone think air conditioning affects them.?I do.

Hi Luke, glad sport takes your mind of tinnitus, got to do what you got to do. England didn't last long, took down your St George's flag yet, save it for another day.
Nadal didn't have good day,but that young Aussie played so well deserved to win,but then our Union Jack is up there on the Aussie flag,so he had my support.
I like Federer, and Murray, they play tomorrow.Djokovic I like to watch,he has got the bit between his teeth,it shows, but this Aussie is a one to look out for. Tennis does take my mind of tinnitus, following on from tennis Tour de France another firm favourite of mine,Wiggins out ,but I like Cavendish and Frome, starts of in UK,so that's me sorted Luke .

I've managed asthma through a healthy lifestyle since I was 12 but had it since I was 2. T is is far more frustrating, IMO.
My understanding eczema and asthma can go hand in hand according to our Allergist and Pediatrician.
I don't feel any relation between my T and asthma. Has he been tested for allergies? His sinus' could be involved in his T bc you said weather effects him. If the weather is making his lungs become inflamed then likely his sinus' are doing the same.
At the peak of pollen season I wore a doctors mask inside, outside and sleep with one on.

Think I will try a mask Jay,my family both sides are fill of allergies,so no surprise virus set me off on this path I'm now on,much to my dismay, always been a healthy soul, luck of life's draw. My husband does take an antihistamine on Drs advice,we wait to see which one of us does the first sneeze of the day,our son and daughter suffer Hayfever,so it's definitely in the genes.
On a forum today, was the mention of Apple Cider Vinegar, going to try that out, before this weekend.Nothing ventured, nothing gained.thats how I believe a cure for tinnitus will come about, just need few clever people to latch on to the connecting dots, when I look how they've found the gene for breast cancer, what's to say the cause of tinnitus misery can't be found in the same way.,we live in hope, know I do,Inhalers weren't around in my dad's time, just meds, now look what's on the market for asthma sufferers,so things do move forward. All best wishes to you
