I was at police station to ask a question.

Stayed there 10 minutes, dB were about 60-70, no plugs as I was told it's OK in normal environments (not bar, not concert.

Right after leaving I had no problem. It started 6 hours later, now nealy 20 hours and not better...

Now my t and h have spiked…

Will this settle?

T is not that high, but h very sensitive...

This ever happen to others? Does it get better?

I was doing fine...panic again now

No horror stories please...

85 decibels is safe for 8 hours straight, 7 days a week.

But since you are a hypochondriac/overly anxious OCD person, 60-70 will blow your cochlea up.

Pls look your previous threads, you have been in "panic" over the most ridiculous things... and always been fine later on!

DO NOT PANIC! Learn to manage yourself, you are an adult.

Sorry...yep hypochondriac, but this spkike is real, light switch sounds louder...everything does...

Are to tinnitus ears more fragile than normal ears?

Any link to official research on this? I know the guidelines, but do they apply to weakened ears?

I had a spike today. I was at work. I carried on. Treated it like an uninvited guest. It settled. If that happened to me at the start, i would have been hysterical. Your spike will settle. Best thing to do is give your ears a rest. Do something relaxing to calm down your cns. Know that youre not alone. X

So no use for presdinone? I have pills left…but suspect overkill?

So this exposure not enough for permanent damage? The loudest was my voice and the police officer, had to talk over noisy crowded room.…

Does it mean that restaurants, cafeteria, hospital, post office ect....are OK no plugs?

My panic is kind of I termitent...

Yesterday, I was in police station for 5 minutes, it was loud , about 65-70 on my phone, my voice and voice of policeman was what annoyed me the most. Station was crowded also.

My t spiked about 5 hours later, then quiet in evening, then slept well.

Next morning bad h, t about same.

Now all day the t and have gone up and down, more than usual....

T went back to baseline a few times and h also became OK, but they are bouncing back and forth...

Main question is:

If t and h return to normal after spike am I OK, safe from permanent spike?

I'm thinking of doing course of steroids again..but my logic tells me not necessary.

Anybody experience this before?

Please, steroids are no candies, you take them only after a serious event (acoustic trauma, sudden hearing loss, etc).

Thanks

Any answer to this?

If T and H return to normal, they are at normal, there is no spike anymore, so you just drop the anxiety for that one.

Thanks Foncky

Just trying to understand this condition, so many different stories.....

If I could get proof of an article that confirms that tinnitus sufferer's ears are no different to normal ears I would know how to manage my fears and protect accordingly, following db guidelines

But I have h also, so I just have no clue what to do...!

It's very complicated indeed, so if your spike goes aways, just enjoy and don't torture yourself ;)

In my case, I have many evidence which confirm that my ears are more fragile than normal ears. So I protect them and I avoid certain things.

You have to listen to your body and make your own guidelines, but it takes time.

@CDNThailand
Unfortunately, there is often not much to further understand about one's own particular case of tinnitus/hyperacusis; it's out of your control. The only thing you can possibly exert any control over is your reaction to it -- panic, anxiety, obsessive sound level measurements -- all that jazz that feeds back into what ends up being self-imposed mental torture.

Well, from now on I will protect for:

- hospital
- post office
- police station
- any loud place with people

Until my t and h settles, only 6 weeks into this and all over the map as how to behave....

You can't predict when you will get exposed to excessive sound levels, and none of the places you listed is normally a location where I'd expect such exposure to occur ("any loud place with people" is pretty much guaranteed if there is more than a single person present, save for monasteries, libraries, and the like). I'd say you're becoming (or have already become) hypersensitized and hypervigilant to all things related to sound; you have to find a way to cool your nerves. A decent psychologist / counselor can help you with that.

Are you sure it's because of the noise?
I don't see how 70 dB can be harmful. If this is the cause of your spike though, I really doubt it can be permanent.

Maybe my phone db meter screwed up? But readings same on tablet...

Standing by side of freeway 65-80 , so db seem fairly accurate

55-70 in station

Maybe a few peak of 75-80 when calling name on speaker.

I have h, so sounds loud to me, before it was no problem.

The biggest loudness was my own conversation with officer, I have autotony also....getting the whole package here..:(

this just started for you. you're going to have spikes for a few months, mostly unrelated to where you are and what you do. strap in, it's a shitty ride - but it'll improve.
