Cause of Tinnitus
TMJ
Hi all!
I've had tinnitus now for a good 4 months.
I have TMJD, and I've had 2 TMJ specialist along with my PT say my tinnitus is from my TMJD.
So, this morning around 5am I woke up and it was somewhat blaring in my left ear, which is where I also have a lot of jaw issues/pain.
It went on for a good couple minutes (i think) and it freaked me out!
The last time I had a spike, is when I ate beef jerky (yes I know, that's asking for it when you already have TMJD) and my jaw got so stiff, then my right ear spiked for like 10s and went away.
But this morning my jaw did not really hurt nor did I have a lot of muscle tension. In fact it felt more like I was in a dream because it went away just as fast as it came on.
The only thing I had done differently yesterday was go to the gym. I worked on the elliptical, but that was like at 10am.
I feel fortunate that my tinnitus is only heard when there is absolute silence but this mornings spike has me on edge.
Are spikes common?
Should I be expecting more in the future?
It's making me feel anxious right now, I'm having a hard time calming down

I wish I could help you more... I think im having a spike now, but im not sure... going on 48 hrs here of what sounds like a car blowing its horn. Im going a little crazy!!! Praying that it stops and goes back to my manageable tones/loudness. Ive read about others having spikes, so yours doesnt sound uncommon from what ive been reading!! Seems anything is possible with T :(

It's ok! Anything is good for me.
It hasn't come back, just my normal noise when it's quiet. I did have physical therapy today and I told her (my therapist) about what happened and she assessed me and said I was more tense than usual. She told me not to use my arms when on the elyptical, so I'm guessing I probably stressed my muscles too much.

I just had a similar spike today.
Everything was well except I felt "something" in my ear, just like the pressure wasn't right. (I can pop and crack it whenever.)
I did nothing but all of a sudden my ears "collapsed" and I had a big spike in my right ear for five seconds. Then it dissapeared as quickly as it came.

What is this? I am so stressed again..

Do you have Eustachian tube dysfunction?
I do and one time I couldn't pop my ears cause I was so congested and my right ear spiked for 10min. But from what I read, spikes are common. i literally just had one a few minutes ago. I'm sitting in my car waiting for a friend and all the sudden I heard a loud eeeee but I couldn't tell if it was me or the radio, it was me but it lasted like 5 seconds.

I don't think so, I've been checked multiple times. It's fairly easy for my to "pop" my ears though.
