Cause of Tinnitus
Exercise? not sure
I am glad there is this forum. I am very new to this and it is friggin the worst thing I have ever had happen to me. I have had panic attacks and anxiety for the past 9 years and I thought that was bad. It is nothing compared to Tinnitus. mine varies from a low hissing sound coming from the back of my head to a loud ringing sound in my left ear. I had a hearing test and they said I have no hearing lost. So I went to the ENT and they didn't do anything except give me fluticasone 50mcg spray. they said I had some inflammation and it was probably alleges. I am not allergic to anything so I really dont think it is that. After they gave me a spray up each nostril in the office and sent me on my way, I felt this is not going to work. Even though I prayed it would be that simple. Halfway driving back home, the ringing was worse than ever and continued until fell asleep in early hours of the morning. I have seen a lot of posts that the spray is no good, so I dont think I will use it. I took blood tests today and seeing my regular doctor next week.

I want to make sure there is first nothing more seriously wrong with me. I am thinking about getting a MRI of my head and neck area to see if it will show anything. Do most people who develop tinnitus do this to rule out any other thing that might be causing Tinnitus. I got tinnitus after I went to the gym and was lifting heavy weights doing back exercise. I had extremely sore back muscles the next 3 days after, so I am hoping it was something I did while working out. and can be fixed by a chiropractor. But I only have a little soreness in my neck now, I think from rubbing it from the Tinnitus. My Tinnitus is a strange sizzling feeling I get and hear from the back of throat, my head and I can feel it in my mouth, do others have this type? I also loud ringing in my left ear all the time. That is the one I really cannot stand. It takes over my brain and head, I cannot focus on anything when I get that.

The only thing that keeps me functioning is apps and youtube videos of different noise color ( pink works best for me and water faucet videos. I would say I have a ear phone on my let ear 50% of the day and I need to go to sleep with it playing or I cannot sleep. I hope to god this passes and this is not how I need to spend the rest of my life. To be honest I do not think I could do it. I am a introvert and this is like the worse thing. I have no quiet time in my life anymore. dos anyone know of any support groups in honolulu, I cannot find any information about one.

Also has anyone tried Naturopathic Healing? I visited this doctor over here in Hawaii www.naturalhealinghawaii.com/ she says she thinks she can really help me by healing the body within and not just masking the problem with drugs. not sure if anyone in hawaii has tried them . cost is a lot $3000 for 8 sessions over 3 months. the services I would get are Acupuncture, body vibration machine, alfa thermal imaging, chiropractor services, deep tissue massage, diet plan, infa red sauna and all the supplements she recommended is included. I like the idea of healing the body from within to lessen the Tinnitus and not just masking it with drugs the doctors are being paid to push. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this approach.

I also have anxiety and it suppose to help with that too. If my Tinnitus was caused by anxiety and I can get rid of the anxiety that that would be amazing! To be honest I don't know if my Tinnitus is more in my head because it is always at night time, when i am in my car or sitting behind a computer that it is its worse because I think about it. Well I know I was kinda all over the place but the ringing in my ear is driving me crazy! as I am typing

Hey! I started my T last week to, just be calm and It will lessen to some degree. Right now I can hear it in total silence. I was anxious like you and I kept reading success stories keep yourself in positivity and be busy. It may eventually go away. And yess i'm just 15 and T taught me a lot.

find a specialised Tinnitus doctor ASAP! ... search the web do what you need to do and get appointment... ENT means very little in the world of tinnitus. It`s like going to a baker to find specialised glutten free bread. Seem plausible but probably you won`t. there is still some things they can do for you like cortizoid treatment. Or something else they know about. I`m more interested in treatement for longterm tinnitus so I don`t know much about recent onset. but don`t just wait untill it goes away. you`ll feel sorry you didn`t try if it doesn`t. It`s the facts.

If you only hear it in total silence you belong to a very big group of human beings so yes, stay calm ... but still who knows you can help it in some way.

If you have the money for the body treatement, great ... come and tell us if it worked ... but after having five and a half years of tinnitus i`m very sceptical in all of this... I did Ayahuasca, kambo and even iboga for my tinnitus, I ate raw foods for over a year and a half ... nope, didn`t work.

Aloha & welcome to TT. Hawaii is simply wonderful place. I was there for 6 years staying on the north shore of Oahu and I tell you those beaches on the north side are so nice and less crowded than Waikiki. The 1st trip I took after I got T in Canada was back to Hawaii. T was ringing but I went visit all the places with huge waves and watched nice sunset at Sunset Beach. I must say T took a back seat on that trip. LOL.

I think a while ago one new member was asking if any one was from Hawaii and he managed to get in touch with a few members there. Here is a good start and you may want to message or tag @christine kauhane to get in touch with her.

Stay positive. The less stress, the easier for T to settle down. If gym is too vigorous, perhaps some leisure walk along the nice beaches of Hawaii. If you need natural masking, just go to the 'big wave' places and sleep out there. As a tourist, I was always fascinated by the locals parking their cars over-night at the tip of some big wave points (such as Laie Point) as they were after the Ulua. There are also those huge waves in Pipeline or Pounders, and you can't have better natural masking than those huge waves like these:

For a newer sufferer, perhaps you should get some steroid shots from yhour doctor asap as some members recommend. In this new phase, you tend to suffer a lot during the initial phase as the limbic nerves are in control, and you tend to get very anxious about the future. Believe me. I know what it was like when my ultra high pitch T and severe H hit me a few years back, and I was in a mess. I also suffered anxiety and panic disorders prior to T & H. So these two alien monsters just triggered relentless anxiety and panic attacks on auto mode the minute I woke up with T screaming loud. I often thought I wouldn't survive this 'hell' of a living, but here I am today living a normal and absolutely enjoyable life, and I wrote my success story like many other members here. So don't worry about the future. It will get better over time. Believe it. Stay calm and positive. Take care & God bless.

I've been doing acupunture with Chinese herbs, for 8 months and there is little improvement with my T. Same theory, heal what caused the symptom, not the symptom itself. Unfortunately, my right cochlea, has been wiped out. Nothing, can bring that back. }:-(

I find NAC, Vinpocetine and B complex vitamins, tend to lower my T somewhat. I also take vitamin C, magnesium, zinc and fish oil. do these work? Slightly.

You might be lucky and your T might resolve itself. With no hearing loss, you're in better shape to have it go away. A tapered course of Prednisone, may help, but only if taken immediately!

For sleep, 5htp, melatonin or L-theanine can work. Buy a sound machine and place it on your bed. tune in to the "rain" sound and you can mask out the noise.

God bless and good luck!

Thank you all for your inspiring words, it is a struggle. I am about a week in now with Tinnitus and now I feel a lot of pressure on my ear drums. I have looked at other posts and it seems to be normal I guess. I have to keep trying to pop my ears to release the tension. Although It does not seem to pop. Is there anything I can take for this?
Also when I sleep I always have one ear phone in my left ear which gives me the ringing noise. But it is strange. If I play about 5 min of Pink noise the high pitch T will go away for a few hours. I always seem to have the background sizzling noise in the back of my head, but that is not so bad. I am very happy listening to something in my left ear can take away the loud ringing for a period of a few hours. Is anyone else able to do this to control their T? When I feel the loud ringing is about to hit me, I can seem to fight it by trying to stretch my neck out and opening and closing my mouth to try to release the tension and usually I can keep it away. Is that normal? I am just wondering if it is something else I might have that is causing my T.

Go see a dentist ... seems like you have TMJ ...

follow my advice and see a tinnitus specialist.

Thanks billie, I looked into it. It would be great if it is that, but I dont have any issues with my jaw or any pain in my jaw or neck area. Today my T is the worse I have had since I started getting it. my brain is about to explode. I don't know how people live with this.

It will take some time and patience. T is alien sensation to the body. It will take time to absorb in this sensation and hopefully the brain won't freak out by the loud ringing. As I am typing I can hear my T very loud too and resonating in my whole head. It would have turned me into a mental mess a few years back by this ultra high pitch dog whistle. But miraculously, my body is hardened to this sensation and I don't give a time to it and no negative emotions are forth coming. I never thought this is possible a few years back. But never under estimate the body's ability to handle this T sound if you don't treat it a threat, perhaps an annoyance but not a threat'. How is this possible that the brain can ignore such a loud noise and unpleasant sensation? Well, remember the flights we took. At first we are all aware of the loud jet noise but we know it is not a threat so the brain can learn to tune it out. That is why when we were deep into watching a movie, we would most likely not be aware of the loud jet noise all encompassing around us. It was being faded out of consciousness when the brain is distracted into something interesting. So likewise, given time when the body is hardened to this ringing more, and if you can convince yourself that T is not a threat (just an annoyance), then when you are busily distracted by other things in life, you will begin to find these 'breaks' from hearing the T ringing. Hopefully that will give you more confidence that the breaks will get more and last longer each time. Then slowly, habituation will begin. So don't lose hope because of the tough initial struggle. It can get better. If you like, you can read up my success story as well as many other success stories (with some sample below). Hey Buddy:
You are not alone out here in Hawaii. We actually have a small Support Group here in Honolulu. If you'd like to get together with our group, I can arrange a meeting time for us. Trust me, it's going to get better. You can meet a lot of us personally, and we can explain the success stories we have had with our T. I can honestly say, I was where you were at 5 months ago, and today I have absolutely no anxiety, and I am enjoying my life once again. There are a lot of great doctors and therapies we can recommend also. Please let me know if you'd like to meet here in Hawaii. We are here for you buddy, just let us know when you'd like to meet or talk.

Mahalo,
Mark K.

I hope it resolves, take kind a lot of vitamic B... after 1 month chances drop to several %, but you get used to live with it, and change your life like a cripple, do what you can, yout t came probably from panic attacks , too much adrenalin and stress does cause it and if you continue having these it will get worse so try to control yourself..
