I was exposed to about an hour of loud noise trauma nine weeks ago, which resulted in a static sound, mostly in my right ear. A hearing test at week four showed no hearing loss compared to a test I had fifteen years ago.
After five weeks, I started Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. At first, the "expert" at the clinic had me doing 2.2 ATA twice a day. After just two sessions, I developed a screeching sound in both ears and tunnel vision. I rested for a week, then continued therapy at 2.0 ATA every two or three days. The screeching tinnitus would be intense on treatment days, both before and after, but in the beginning it would be much better on the days between treatments.
After ten HBOT sessions over four weeks, the screeching is now present every day.
Here's the question I can't figure out:
Is the screeching tinnitus a typical part of my injury's progression, and should I continue HBOT to try to reduce it?
Or is the screeching tinnitus actually being caused by the HBOT, and should I stop the treatment immediately and hope the screeching fades?
