Sudden Onset Tinnitus — No Hearing Loss: From Ibuprofen/Stress/Ear Wax?

You'll likely find that this sound goes away in the short term. Hang in there and protect your ears.
I really hope so. My tinnitus has changed so much since getting it at the very beginning of December. I know it's still really new and I hope it fades and calms down as time goes on.

Just wanted to say my heart goes out to you. I'm going through something similar. One day it will be almost completely gone, the next day it will spike. I've had a lot of trouble getting sleep. But we both got to keep the faith that things will get easier. Remember 98% of people habituate. Positivity in the depths of darkness are what truly matters.

I'm so sorry that you're going through it. I totally feel you. Some days it'll be quiet/silent and some days it'll be loud and intrusive. Sometimes it fluctuates between those two extremes multiple times throughout the day.

Same situation. I suppose it's a blessing it's not constant. I'll be going for neck physical therapy soon as I've been told that's my cause. My neck is reallly messed up.

I feel like mine is recovering like this. It's a high frequency noise... but slowly getting better. I haven't been using earplugs, my music has been on low volume in car and I no longer use headphones.

Should I wear earplugs when I go out?

Dear OP,

Please do yourself a favor and stop coming to this website. You don't have tinnitus. You simply freaked yourself out, and now your body is in a state of hyper awareness. You said it yourself. It went away and then you noticed a different sound. Guess what? That sound has happened before, you weren't listening for it so you didn't hear it. Also you weren't freaked out about it and so your body did not enter into hyper awareness (as it is now and will remain until you get a grip) and thus, it went away. It's not going to go away if you keep listening and thinking catastrophic thoughts. Please take heed, I'm not picking on you or trying to diminish your experience. I just feel as though I have done experience with this is exact scenario and I'm hoping that I can help :)

P.S. I'm only back to this site because somebody requested an update. After providing the update, I took a quick peek at introduce yourself and I saw your post. I'm leaving now and will not be returning unless you have any questions.

I wonder if there is some merit to this. I did see an audiologist who did an extended audiogram and I only have mild hearing loss at 14 kHz and 16 kHz in my right ear. I definitely have hyperacusis but maybe that's related to my hyper awareness and hypervigilance? Maybe I do need a break here.

@Barney Kovacs thank you so much for your response. I'm still struggling day to day. I'm struggling to focus on work and get my job done. I'm an educator and public speaker and the ringing and ear fullness is all I can focus on. It's hard to do public speaking with your ears feeling plugged and your voice sounding distorted.

I tried to do some of my yoga again and broke down sobbing. How can I focus on my breath when all I hear is this fucking tinnitus?

I've been on Prednisone for a few days now and it's helped a little. Will I ever get my life back? I'm so thankful for your outreach and your support.
I am an out-of-work music teacher because of hearing distortion and tinnitus causing migraines, nausea, and vertigo. MRI shows nothing, hearing test had 8% LF loss... I'm seeing a physical therapist for jaw alignment and relaxation of muscles in the neck and jaw. Also trying to get into an upper cervical specialist chiropractor. Praying constantly for complete healing to manifest in Jesus' name to get my life back. Going on 14 weeks.
