So, I had habituated to my tinnitus after getting it about 2 years ago, but for the past month I've been dealing with a tinnitus spike that happened to start soon after an ongoing (still unresolved) issue with migraine aura (this and other issues in my life have been immensely stressful during this past month).

My tinnitus is usually a very high pitched, faint hissing noise that doesn't seem to have much of a tone. Yet, tonight I suddenly realized that it seems to have gotten much lower in pitch and a bit louder. There is also a sudden sensation of ear fullness, like my ears are popping? This is all a little more prominent in my right ear. Also, the volume seems to change if I move my head position? These are all so suddenly different from the tinnitus I've had for the past two years.

I am trying to stay calm but I am very confused. Does lower pitch tinnitus/ear fullness/suddenly changed tinnitus usually indicate something in particular?

Thanks.

Hello friend,

Recently have been experiencing the same thing for about 1 month. However, my "louder" pitch is my higher pitched hiss, not my lower pitched hum. I've done tons of research regarding the ear fullness and clicking and popping and have determined it to be effects from ETD, or Eustachian Tube Disorder. My symptoms have slowly died down throughout this week (louder tinnitus, slight hyperacusis, ear clicking and fullness) However I feel as if tho it has not completely returned back to normal. I have heard also that tinnitus spikes are common with those who are dealing with ETD. Don't fret about it and make sure you try some non-ototoxic, OTC medication to try and alleviate your ETD.

Best wishes,
-Chano
